OPPO Smartphone with In-Display Camera will be Unveiled on June 26th

We recently learned that OPPO is prepping to release an under-display camera smartphone at MWC, Shangai. The company has now confirmed that the futuristic smartphone with an under display camera will be unveiled on the June 26th.

OPPO has also shared a teaser video earlier that gives us a better look at the upcoming technology. The teaser video walks us through the evolution of the front camera, starting from the rotating camera of the OPPO N Series, the pop-up camera setup on the OPPO Find X and finally the shark-fin camera on the OPPO Reno.

It is interesting how the selfie camera can be activated on the OPPO device. Once the person opens the selfie camera, a bar appears on the top of the screen. The person places their finger on the top of the screen and the camera gets blocked. In other words, OPPO has successfully demonstrated how it has integrated a selfie camera within a display. No notches, holes or pop up mechanisms to deal with.

That being said, other manufacturers like Xiaomi, Samsung, and Vivo are also working on similar tech. It is very likely that in-display cameras might become the norm in the future. Xiaomi has also uploaded a video that shows off Mi 9 with a working under display selfie camera.

Smartphone manufacturers are innovating and striving hard to achieve a true full screen. In the recent past, bezels have almost disappeared and the notch is getting smaller. Some of the manufacturers like Motorola, Huawei, and Samsung have come up with a punch hole front cameras. Despite all the ingenuity, the front camera still blocks some pixels on the display. OPPO’s new in display-camera is expected to solve this issue.
