After launching the Oppo F5 earlier yesterday for the Indian market, the company unveiled the R11s and R11s Plus at an event in China today. The devices, similar to the F5 are built around the concept of capturing crisp clear selfies. The company also seems to carry forward the bezel-less design language that was featured on the F5 with the R11s series. Let’s have a look at what these devices have to offer.
Design and Display
The R11s and its plus variant feature a robust metal design with the fingerprint sensor located on the back as compared to the R11 which had it on the front. The fingerprint sensor relocation is due to the new bezel-less screen design on the front. With this new design pattern, Oppo has integrated an 18:9 display on both models. While the smaller R11s features a Full HD 6.01-inch AMOLED display having a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels, the larger R11s Plus has a 6.43-inch Full HD AMOLED display having the same resolution. In addition to this, the phones feature the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection to safeguard their displays from accidental drops.
Performance and Storage
Both smartphones feature similar specifications under the hood, barring the RAM and battery capacity. The phones are powered by the octa-core Snapdragon 660 processor ticking at 1.8GHz. For graphic-intensive use, the company has also coupled this with the Adreno 512 GPU. To keep the overall user interface seamless and lag-free, the R11s will ship with 4GB of RAM while its larger variant, the R11s Plus will pack in 6GB of RAM.
On the storage front, both phones pack in 64GB of internal storage which can be further expanded up to 256GB through its microSD card support.
Camera and Software
The camera setups on these smartphones are their unique selling points. On the back, the R11s and its larger sibling feature a dual rear camera setup comprising of a 16-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.7 and a 20-megapixel sensor having an aperture of f/2.6. Thanks to the dual camera arrangement, the smartphone is expected to capture some great images in low light as well as pull off some neat tricks like portrait mode.
On the front-side of the phone sits its 20-megapixel selfie camera. With this, the company is looking to send a straight message that the phone is built to be a selfie expert. The selfie camera sensor features an aperture of f/2.0. Oppo has also garnished the phones with some artificial intelligence (AI) goodness to add to its selfie game, including beautify-mode and others.
Both the R11s and the R11s Plus run Oppo’s custom user interface – ColorOS 3.2 which is based on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The phone should expect an update to Android 8 Oreo soon as well, however, there is no official statement on this yet.
Connectivity and Battery
On the bottom of the phone sits a micro USB port and a headphone jack which are the two ports this smartphone has to offer. The micro USB port can be used for data transfer and charge the phone. The phones also offer support for VOOC fast charge technology. On the connectivity front, the phones offer the conventional solutions including dual-band WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, and GPS with A-GPS. The R11s draws its power from a 3205mAh battery unit while the larger variant sports a larger 4000mAh battery pack under its hood.
The devices have been launched with an asking price of CNY 2,999 (about Rs 30,000) for the R11s and CNY 3,199 (about Rs. 31,300) for the R11s Plus. At this price point, would you be looking to purchase this smartphone? Do let us know in the comments section below..
