OPPO had launched the Reno series in May this year. Now the Chinese smartphone maker is set to unveil the second-generation Reno smartphones in India. The company has started sending out save the date invites for the launch event on August 28th. The smartphone will be launched in India first, and then expand to other markets.
The teaser image reveals that the next-generation Reno smartphones will be called Reno 2. The company has mentioned the word ‘Series’ which means we can expect at least two devices – a Standard and Zoom Edition just like the first-gen Reno. From the image, it appears the Reno 2 series will be equipped with a quad-camera setup on the rear. To recall, the standard Reno and Reno 10x Zoom come with dual and triple rear cameras respectively.
The invite says that the Reno 2 will offer 20x zoom capabilities, however it is unclear whether the zoom is digital or optical. We also don’t know if the telephoto camera will use a periscope mechanism, which has been seen on the P30 Pro and Oppo Reno 10x Zoom. The teaser also shows the smartphone retaining the elevating ‘shark-fin’ front camera design seen on its predecessor.
OPPO hasn’t shared any more information about the Reno 2 series. Other specs are expected to be more or less likely similar to the first-generation Reno. There is also a possibility that the Reno 2 series may be priced higher than the existing Reno devices. We expect OPPO to roll out more teasers leading up to the launch event.
