OPPO launched the 5G-ready Reno3 and the Reno3 Pro phones in China back in December 2019. The brand then went to launch the latter in India as the world’s first smartphone with a 44-megapixel selfie camera earlier this year. Recently, a new leak on Chinese micro-blogging site Weibo hinted that OPPO will launch the next generation Reno series smartphone in May and it will be called the Reno 5.
If you are wondering why not Reno 4, it’s because the number ‘4’ is considered bad luck in Chinese tradition and that is why most Chinese brands skip the number 4 in their phone’s names. However, if a new leak is to be believed, OPPO is not being superstitious and the upcoming smartphone will indeed be called Reno 4.
OPPO Reno 4 spotted in a live image
As can be seen in the image above, the Reno 4 appears to have been spotted in a briefing for Chinese media. We can see the upcoming OPPO Reno 4 in two colour options – Black and White. We can assume the smartphone will have a glass sandwich design. Speaking of the design, the Reno 4 appears to feature a more rectangular form factor as we saw on the Chinese variant of the Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro.
Additionally, we can see the camera setup on the back of the Reno 4 clearly. It appears to feature three large sensors arranged vertically with a smaller lens besides the sensor at the bottom, and an LED flash towards the top. The phone also seems to be featuring the now-in-trend rectangular camera island.
Unfortunately, nothing else can be figured out from the leaked image. However, since it appears to be a media briefing, we can expect that launch will be scheduled very soon.
OPPO Reno 4 launch date
As mentioned before, according to a recent leak, OPPO might launch the next Reno series device before this month end. However, there’s no affirmative timeline known at the moment.
