OPPO Reno and Reno 10x Zoom Edition With Shark Fin Selfie Camera Launched In India: Price, Specifications

At a launch event held today, OPPO has launched its latest smartphone series, the Oppo Reno in the Indian market. The series consists of the OPPO Reno and OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition. As the name implies, the later offers 10x zoom technology that was announced at MWC 2019. Both smartphones were launched in China last month.  Let’s delve into the technical specifications of the devices:

Display &  Design:

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition boasts of a 6.6-inch display bearing FHD+ resolution. It is fitted with an AMOLED panel on top and is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass 6. The device features an in-display fingerprint scanner. Design-wise, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom can be availed in multiple gradient colour options. It comes with 3D glass and durable 7000-series aluminum alloy frame. The device sports rounded corners, no bezels, and a vertical strip running on the back of the device just below the camera.

The Oppo Reno Series comes with a unique elevating ‘shark fin’ front camera design which sets it apart from the rest of pop-up camera phones. The device also doesn’t come with a camera bump on the rear which is seen on most smartphones.

Camera :

The OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition sports a triple rear camera module for serving different photography scenarios. The setup comprises of a 48MP main Sony IMX586 sensor, a 13MP telephoto lens, and a third 8MP ultra-wide angle sensor. On the front, the shark fin pop-up module houses a 16MP selfie shooter. OPPO claims that the module can pop-up in 0.8 seconds. The Reno 10x Zoom Edition comes with multi-focussing modes which include laser, PDAF, and CDAF for fast focusing speeds.

As for the 10x zoom technology, the device is capable of covering focal lengths from 16mm to 160mm. The device combines a periscope-like zoom mechanism and triple camera setup to achieve an effective 10x zoom range. The Reno 10x Zoom Edition is equipped with a dual OIS that ensures sharp and detailed photos at 10x zoom handled.

The camera is assisted by Oppo’s AI ultra clear engine and comes with features like 4K video recording, slow-mo, Ultra Night 2.0, Dazzle mode, etc.

Hardware & OS:

Under the hood, the OPPO Reno 10x Zoom Edition is powered by a flagship Snapdragon 855 chipset. It is paired with Adreno 640 GPU onboard. The device packs up to 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage expandable via a microSD card slot. It features Game Boost 2.0 for increasing gaming performance. Out of the box, the smartphone runs on ColorOS 6 based on Android 9 Pie.

Battery & Connectivity:

The Reno 10x Zoom Edition runs on a 4,065mAh battery unit fitted inside. It supports OPPO’s proprietary VOOC 3.0 fast charging via USB Type-C. Connectivity-wise, the smartphone comes with an L1+L5 dual frequency GPS for accurate location tracking. It also comes with NFC support along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3.5mm audio jack and other conventional options like 4G, VoLTE.

OPPO Reno Standard Edition:

The standard version of OPPO Reno is a stripped down variant of the Reno 10x Zoom Edition but retains the same design language.

The standard edition features a smaller 6.4-inch AMOLED display bearing a full HD+ resolution. The display is integrated with an in-screen fingerprint scanner. In terms of internals, the device is powered by a Snapdragon 710 processor, paired with 8GB RAM and 128GB internal memory. The device supports a microSD card slot. The Standard Edition is backed by a smaller 3,765mAh battery unit with support for fast charging.

The last difference between the two devices is in the camera department. The OPPO Reno sports a dual camera setup comprising of a Sony IMX586 48MP main sensor accompanied by a 5MP depth sensor. The shark fin pop-up module on the front houses a 16MP snapper for selfies.

The rest of the specs relating to OS and connectivity are the same as found on the Reno 10x Zoom Edition.

Pricing & Availability:

Beginning with the 10x Zoom Edition, the base variant i.e. 6GB + 128GB is priced at Rs 39,990. The 8GB + 256GB variant carry gets a price tag of Rs 49,990. The OPPO Reno that comes in a single 8GB + 128GB variant will retail at Rs 32,990. Pre-orders for the phone will begin from May 28th on Flipkart, and go on sale starting June 7th.

With a stunning design and camera technology, the OPPO Reno Series sets itself apart from the rest of smartphones. The devices will compete against the recently launched OnePlus 7 Series, and Pixel 3a devices in India.
