OPPO has launched the latest addition to its highly popular Reno series. The Reno2 series consists of three devices, all boasting quad camera setups. The Reno2 Z sits in the middle of the line-up. Packed with ultra-fast performance, a gorgeous full-screen display, exquisite looks and of course, remarkable imaging and video capabilities, it impresses in each and every department. The Reno2 Z goes on sale from September 6th, and truly offers tremendous value for money for a Rs 29,990 smartphone. Today, we’ve decided to give you a thorough overview of all its main offerings. Let’s get straight into it them.
Ingenuous quad camera experience
A long vertical strip on the back of the OPPO Reno2 Z houses the quad camera setup which combines different cameras paired with lenses bearing different focal lengths. The main camera, with its 48MP (Sony IMX586) sensor, clicks regular photographs, while an 8MP camera is reserved for ultra wide-angle images. The third snapper is a 2MP black and white sensor, while the fourth one is a 2MP depth sensor for offering portrait effects.
The 48MP main camera has been equipped with an f/1.7 aperture, which helps it capture great images in fine detail. But that’s not all; the phone has even been equipped with an Ultra Dark Mode that excels at clicking well-lit images in extremely low light environments. This is achieved with a combination of multi-frame noise reduction, AI and stabilization. Speaking about stabilization, the main camera bears EIS, OIS and HIS support, allowing it to produce super steady videos using the Ultra Steady Video Mode.
Another prominent addition to the device is the Bokeh Video effect that allows a background blurring effect both on the front camera and rear camera to highlight selected objects, and create a much richer sense of depth when capturing landscapes and scenery.
The ultra wide-angle camera onboard the Reno2 Z gives you a fresh perspective on your subjects, with its 119-degree field of view. You’d also be pleased to know that this phone can capture videos using its ultra wide-angle lens. This will definitely allow you to get more creative with your video content. Coming to the 2MP black and white shooter, it not only clicks great monochrome images, but also allows better capture of colours in regular photos. Lastly, the Reno2 Z has a 2MP depth sensor, which of course enables all the portrait effects that quickly add a professional touch to your photographs.
This OPPO Reno2 Z hides its 16MP front camera on the top surface with the help of a rising mechanism. Lastly, this phone comes pre-installed with OPPO’s new SOLOOP video editor. Not only does it allow you to edit your footage manually, but also automatically creates video montages complete with music to create stunning videos.
Another striking feature of the Reno2 Z is its excellent full-screen front surface that’s made possible by the front camera being fitted inside the rising mechanism. This allows the panoramic screen of the phone to be spread across the entire front surface, resulting in new levels of immersion when you’re watching videos or playing games. This is moreover, an AMOLED display that is sized at 6.53-inches. And of course, its full HD+ resolution results in crisp and detailed visuals.
Like the front surface of the Reno2 Z, its rear face too lets out an incredibly premium vibe. Covered with Gorilla Glass 5, it has a gradient finish, which reflects different colours at all angles. Luminous Black and Sky White are the two colours the device is offered in, with the former model having irregular nano textures that help create a sparkling gradient effect. The top surface of the phone has been reserved for its rising camera, while the bottom surface houses a headphone jack and a USB Type-C port. The earpiece and all the necessary sensors on the front surface are masterfully hidden to create a seamless appearance and gradient design.
Thanks to the incorporation of the MediaTek Helio P90 chipset, this OPPO handset is able to dole out incredibly fast performance no matter how heavy the tasks thrown at it. Moreover the Reno2 Z is the first device is India to feature the P90 chipset. This 12nm chipset comes equipped with a 2.2GHz octa-core processor and a PowerVR GM9446 GPU. This also means great news for gamers, who can rest assured that high-end games like PUBG Mobile will run very smoothly on it. And apart from all this, let us not forget that the Reno2 Z ships with 8GB worth of RAM and 256GB worth of storage as well. Moreover, there’s a microSD card slot present on it for further storage expansion.
The software features in ColorOS 6.1, like Game Assistant and Game Space, will come in very handy for playing heavy games. While the former provides notification management, screen record and other shortcuts, the latter lets you individually change performance parameters for games. The Reno2 Z also utilizes Hyper Boost 2.0, Frame Boost, and Touch Boost to provide a smooth and immersive user experience with five-star TUV gaming certification.
With a 4,000mAh battery inside it, this OPPO Reno2 Z is good for running an entire day without dying out on you. And even if it does run out of battery in crunch situations, you need not worry, since its 20W VOOC Flash Charge 3.0 technology will make sure that the device is juiced up fully in an incredibly short amount of time.
As far as mid-range devices go, few smartphones offer the kind of value for money that the OPPO Reno2 Z brings to the table. It delivers a diverse quad camera experience, a beautiful full-screen display, ultra-fast performance and all-day battery life. That will definitely make the phone a desirable option for those looking for a device in its price range. We rate it 10 out of 10.
