Last week, OPPO announced the OPPO Reno5 5G and Reno5 Pro 5G upper mid-range smartphones in China. At the end of the event, the company also confirmed that the Reno5 Pro+ 5G will be unveiled on December 24th in the home market. The day has arrived, and the smartphone has gone official with flagship specs.

The OPPO Reno5 Pro+ 5G flagship smartphone is powered by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform. The other major attraction of the device is it the world’s first smartphone to feature the Sony IMX766 50-megapixel camera. OPPO has worked with Sony to co-develop the new image sensor that can capture top quality shots in dim-light conditions.

The OPPO Reno5 Pro+ 5G features the latest Sony IMX766 50MP main camera

The OPPO Reno5 Pro+ 5G has a 6.55-inch AMOLED display with centered punch-hole and curved edges. The screen offers a Full HD+ resolution of 1,080 x 2,400 pixels, a 90Hz refresh rate, up to 180Hz touch sampling rate, and 800nits max brightness. The smartphone offers a screen-to-body ratio of 92.1 precent, claims the company.

It features a front-facing camera of 32-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture. The rear-mounted quad camera setup of the Reno5 Pro+ 5G features the Sony IMX766 50-megapixel lens as the primary camera. It has a 1/1.56-inch lens with a large pixel size of 1.0μm. It carries support for full-pixel omnidirectional focusing.

The new lens can intake 63.8 percent more light than the previous generation Sony IMX586 lens. It is capable of shooting brighter and clearer videos in low-light scenarios. OPPO claimed that the digital overlay HDR technology can increase the dynamic range and image quality of video footage by 200 percent. The 50-megapixel lens comes with f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and EIS support. It is coupled with a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens enabled with EIS, a 13-megapixel telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom and hybrid zoom, and a 2-megapixel macro lens.

The Reno5 Pro+ 5G is driven by the Snapdragon 865 mobile platform and it comes with up to 12GB of LPDDR4x RAM. The handset offers users up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage. It lacks support for external storage. The Reno5 Pro+ 5G boots to ColorOS 11.1 based Android 11 OS. For maintaining internal temperature, the phone comes with VC liquid cooling technology. The phone is backed by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 65W fast charging.

The phone maintains a slim profile of 7.99m, and it weighs only 184 grams. It come with other features such as an in-screen fingerprint reader, dual SIM, 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, dual-frequency GPS, and USB-C.

At the event, the company also announced the OPPO Reno5 Pro+ Artist Limited Edition, which comes with innovative electrochromic technology. Just by double-tapping on the phone’s rear, one can switch between dark blue and black colours. It comes with a life span of more than 30,000 cycles of discolouration.

OPPO Reno5 Pro+ 5G pricing and availability

The OPPO Reno5 Pro+ 5G has arrived in two variants such as 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. They are priced at RMB 3,999 (~Rs 45,060)and RMB 4,499 (~Rs 50,700), respectively. It will go on sale on December 29th in the homeland. It comes in Starry Dream and Night Shadow color editions.

The Artist Limited Edition will go on sale from January 22nd with a price tag of RMB 4,499 (~Rs 50,700). It comes in a single version of 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. Recent reports have claimed that the Reno5 Pro+ 5G will not be made available outside China.
