OPPO smartwatch will offer ECG support, to arrive in Q1 2020

On: January 27, 2020

OPPO is set to foray into the smartwatch segment. A new report suggests that the brand is expected to announce its first smartwatch in the first quarter of 2020. This means that the device could debut by the end of March. Last year, OPPO VP Brian Shen revealed important details about the company’s upcoming smartwatch around the time the Mi Watch was launched. Now a new leak from Digital Chat Station has revealed that the upcoming OPPO smartwatch will come with ECG/EKG support.

The ECG function is increasingly becoming a popular feature in wearables. It is capable of detecting irregular heart rhythms or atrial fibrillation. In the past, there have been reports of Apple Watch detecting heart abnormalities in the user. ECG is a more advanced feature than just measuring the owner’s heart rate. Apart from Apple Watch Series 5, other smartwatches that are equipped with the ECG feature are the Samsung Galaxy Active 2, Withings Move ECG and Amazfit Verge.

Apart from the ECG functionality, Brian Shen in a Weibo post had revealed that the OPPO smartwatch will have a rectangular dial since it displays more information compared to a circular dial. However, he did add that a circular dial looks better in design, just like a traditional watch.

It’s unknown what other features the upcoming OPPO smartwatch will pack. OPPO hasn’t revealed the launch date of the same. The company is set to unveil the Find X2 flagship smartphone this quarter. It’s likely that OPPO will announce its smartwatch at the same event. We expect to get more information about the smartwatch in the coming weeks.
