The story of Pattatha Arasan revolves around reviving a family’s pride associated with Kabaddi. The protagonist has the natural talent of being good at the sport. However, he is unaware of this and the skills have been passed on in the family over generations. However, due to village politics, the locals restrict the family from playing the sport in the community. What follows are events where the family and the group of villagers, against the sport, face each other with a challenge.

Critics have given mediocre response to the film owing to the subject being showcased several times. However, similar films in the past have garnered impressive response from the audience. The team has also ensured that the sport is showcased in the right form. The director, in recent interviews, has also mentioned that Pattathu Arasan, besides just the sport, will also include family values, emotions and more. Moreover, adding to the context, the makers have shot the film in an actual village setting, a betel leaf plantation in Thanjavur, the location which has gained popularity in the recent times.
