POCO’s next smartphone to launch in February, will not be sold in Mi Home stores

Earlier this month, Xiaomi announced that its sub-brand POCO will now continue to operate as an independent company. Soon after, POCO India put up a teaser video for version 2.0 of the brand. Now, POCO India general manager C Manmohan has revealed more details about the company’s future plans in an interview with Gadgets Now. Manmohan has announced that the next POCO smartphone will be launched in India at some point next month. While he didn’t reveal which phone the brand will launch next, it is expected to be the POCO F2. In addition, Manmohan has revealed a handful of details about how POCO will be operating in India’s smartphone market in the future.

POCO F2 will pack a high-end processor and a large amount of RAM

As announced earlier, POCO will operate as an independent company. The brand will be paying Xiaomi for any services it borrows. Manmohan will be heading the POCO venture and the next phone from the company will be its first offering without Xiaomi branding. Xiaomi had already announced earlier that POCO will have its own team and its separate marketing strategy. The brand will be launching multiple products this year.

In a separate interview with Gadgets 360, C Manmohan said that POCO will continue to store data of its users at Xiaomi’s data centres and offer after-sales services from Xiaomi. POCO smartphones will continue to utilise Xiaomi’s MIUI Android custom ROM. He said that POCO will sell its products via online portals and in offline stores over time. However, the brand will not be selling its future smartphones through Mi Home stores across the country.

Furthermore, the successor to the POCO F1 will be equipped with a high-end chipset and a high amount of RAM. The phone will be available to purchase as soon as this quarter. Just like the POCO F1, the upcoming handset from the brand, possibly the POCO F2, will be offered as a value-for-money offering. However, the company is yet to decide the price segments in which it will release its new smartphones.
