POCO F2 will not be a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro, POCO GM confirms

On: March 31, 2020

A few days ago, a report by XDA Developers revealed that the Redmi K30 Pro may debut as a rebranded POCO F2 in India. Previously, the brand had launched the standard Redmi K30 as the POCO X2 in the country, and it was widely speculated that the Pro variant would launch as the POCO F2. However, in a virtual interaction with POCO fans, the brand’s GM C Manmohan reportedly shot down rumours of the K30 Pro launching as a rebranded POCO F2. He revealed that the brand’s upcoming smartphone will be different from the Redmi K30 Pro. The POCO executive also added that the POCO F2 is still in works and it won’t be priced like its predecessor, the POCO F1.

To recall, the POCO F1 was launched at Rs 20,999 for the base variant with flagship specifications. Its successor i.e the F2 is definitely not going to be affordable as the F1. The upcoming offering may be powered by Snapdragon 865 processor with 5G connectivity. Apart from this, there are not many details on the upcoming POCO F2 at the moment.

Last week, Manmohan had conducted a poll on Twitter asking fans if the brand should launch more gadgets apart from smartphones. The majority of people voted for truly wireless earbuds with headphones and fitness band/watch coming second and third place respectively. In the virtual meeting, Manmohan revealed that POCO is indeed working on TWS earbuds. The brand had separated from its parent company Xiaomi earlier this January. The latter already offers TWS earbuds under its portfolio, but they are not available in India yet. There are no details yet on the earbuds, but they are expected to launch in the country soon.
