POCO announced the POCO M2 Pro in India in July. The moniker suggested that there could be a non-Pro vanilla model in the works. Today, the company officially confirmed through a tweet that it will be launching the POCO M2 at 12pm on September 8th in the country.
The POCO M2 will be made available through Flipkart as its landing page is now live on the retailer’s site. The teaser image of the phone shown in the landing page reveals that it is equipped with a waterdrop notch display. It appears that the POCO M2 will be positioned lower than the POCO M2 Pro, and could be arriving as the cheapest phone from the brand.

The landing page of the POCO M2 on Flipkart has no details on its specs. It only states that it will feature a large-sized display. The page also reveals that the phone will be able to capture HD photos, will offer ample RAM and a large-sized battery.
The POCO M2 Pro was rebadged version of the global Redmi Note 9 Pro phone with slight changes in the rear camera and added fast charging capabilities. There is a possibility that the POCO M2 could also be a rebranded version of a Redmi phone.
Further proof of this comes from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), which had approved the M2004J19I and M2004J19PI Xiaomi phones. These models had appeared with the Redmi 9 moniker later. In June, the TUV Rheinland certification platform had certified the M2004J19PI as a POCO device. Hence, it appears that the POCO M2 could be a variant of the Redmi 9.
The POCO M2 Pro comes with a starting price of Rs 13,999. It is likely that the POCO M2 could be priced around Rs 10,000 in the country. Flipkart’s landing page will be updated with more details on POCO M2 tomorrow.
