Portronics Kronos X4 review: A budget smartwatch with the solid build quality

Lately, the budget smartwatch market in India has exploded, and many new entrants have entered. A few days ago, Portronics joined the bandwagon and expanded its smartwatch lineup by launching its new Kronos X4. Technically, this is not the first smartwatch from the brand, but the latest one with all the trendy goodies like Bluetooth calling, HD display and more.

The device is priced at Rs 2,999 and is available on Portronics’s official website, Amazon, Flipkart, and all the leading online and offline stores across India. But should you spend your hard-earned money on this smartwatch? Let’s find out!

Design and Display

The first thing that I noticed when I got the smartwatch was its build quality. It feels like a solidly built smartwatch and doesn’t feel cheap, which is the case with most budget smartwatches. Besides, the design is another strong aspect of the Portronics Kronos X4. It boasts a metal body which feels and looks quite premium while holding or wearing the smartwatch.

The Portronics Kronos X4 flaunts a 1.85-inch HD display encased with a square dial which is not extraordinary but does the job. Besides, the smartwatch is wrapped with silicone straps that feel comfortable on the hand and easy to clean.

The Portronics Kronos X4 runs a custom-built operating system and is compatible with Android and iOS via the Smart-Time Pro app. The UI on the app was quite intuitive and clean. It will give all the detailed stats of your activity. Besides, if you like to customise everything you have, the Portronics Kronos X4 will not disappoint you as it comes with 100+ customisable watch faces, which you can change by going into the menu and selecting the watchface of your choice.

Battery Life and Performance

The Portronics Kronos X4 packs in 260mAh of battery which is not the biggest, but in my usage, it easily lasted around 5 to 6 days with heavy to moderate use on a single charge. Besides, in terms of performance, I didn’t face any major issues while using the smartwatch.

However, the only difficulty I had was with the rise-to-wake feature. As the smartwatch could not accurately detect my hand movement, I had to twist my hand a lot of times to wake it up, which felt quite irritating. Besides, the notification’s text is a bit small for a big smartwatch like this, making it difficult to read, especially while driving.

Apart from that, the smartwatch bundles all the usual health and fitness trackers, which accurately track heart rates and SpO2 levels. However, remember that while it’s best to have these sensors on our wrists, it’s better to have these vitals checked via dedicated medical instruments designed specifically for this purpose.

The smartwatch also offers a built-in microphone and speakers for Bluetooth calling, which is fairly usable while driving or exercising. But do not expect the Bluetooth calling to perform well in heavy traffic, as the speakers on the smartwatch are not audible enough in such an environment, which is acceptable.

At its asking price of Rs 2,999, the Portronics Kronos X4 is a value-for-money smartwatch. It has an elegant design and solid build quality. So if you are tight on budget and looking for a simple smartwatch with calling capabilities, then the Portronics Kronos X4 has all the potential to be a perfect fit.
