Qualcomm, the company which makes processors for most smartphones available on the market has unveiled three new chipsets that will be fitted on upcoming budget smartphones. The processors will go by the model numbers Snapdragon 429, Snapdragon 439 and Snapdragon 632. Let’s have a look at what these processors have to offer.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 429
This processor is the successor to the popular SD 425 processor that is found on devices like the Xiaomi Redmi 5A and the Vivo Y71. This processor, just like its predecessor will be fitted in devices in the sub-Rs. 10,000 price segment.
The chipset comprises of four Cortex A53 performance cores which are clocked at 1.95GHz. It is also coupled with the Adreno 504 GPU for added graphics performance. Qualcomm has boasted that this processor will be up to 25% faster than the SD 425. Considering the trend of dual-cameras stretching all the way to mid-range and budget smartphones, this chipset has been equipped to support a dual 8MP camera setup or a single 16MP camera setup. It will also bring support for Dual-VoLTE to smartphones in this range.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 439
This upcoming offering from Qualcomm comprises of four performance cores ticking at 1.95GHz. This chipset is accompanied by the Adreno 505 GPU to aid in graphics intensive processes. Qualcomm has touted this processor to be 25% faster than its predecessor. Just like its sibling, this chipset also brings some improvement on the camera front, now offering support for two 8-megapixel cameras or one 21-megapixel unit. This processor will also bring support for Dual VoLTE.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 632
This is the most powerful processor from the lot that was announced and is the successor to the Snapdragon 626 which currently powers phones like the Vivo V9 and Moto Z2 Play. This chipset is targeted for smartphones priced in the sub-Rs. 20,000 range.
The Snapdragon 632 is an octa-core processor which comprises of eight Kryo 250 cores bearing the ARM big.LITTLE architecture. The processor is expected to bring more efficiency and in turn, devices that run with this processor will be able to last longer on a single charge. The company has also claimed that the SD 632 will be 40% faster than its predecessor. It’s GPU, the Adreno 506 also bears a 10% boost as compared to last years chip. In the camera department, the processor will be able to support two 13-megapixel snappers ot a single 23-megapixel sensor. Just like its other siblings, this processor will also allow for Dual VoLTE.
With the recent trend of bezel-less smartphones and displays with notches, these processors also offer support for fullHD+ displays, except the SD 429 which will support HD+ display resolution. Apart from that, all processors have also been infused with AI prowess, so you can expect better performance parameters as the chipset will adapt to your usage patterns. Better RAM management is also expected.
