Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 460 processors announced

At an event in India, Qualcomm has introduced its latest mid-range processors called the Snapdragon 720G, Snapdragon 662, and Snapdragon 460. As per the chipset maker, the new Snapdragon mobile platforms will enable fast 4G connectivity speeds, and offer Wi-Fi 6 support and integrated Bluetooth 5.1, thanks to the Qualcomm FastConnect 6-series subsystems. The new SoCs also support Dual-Frequency (L1 and L5) GNSS, which provides improved location positioning accuracy. The new chipsets also feature the Qualcomm AI Engine and Qualcomm Sensing Hub, which offer improved AI user experiences across photography, voice assistants and more. Notably, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G, 662 and 460 are the first processors to support Navigation with Indian Constellation (NavIC), which provides more accurate location performance.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G specifications and features

The Snapdragon 720G processor will provide Snapdragon Elite Gaming features, which are currently available in premium processors. The processor will provide HDR gameplay, dynamic colour range and contrast, and immersive environments during gameplay. The chipset provides synchronised sound during gaming, thanks to the Qualcomm aptX Adaptive feature. The processor is equipped with the Qualcomm Spectra 350L ISP, which provides super-smooth video streaming, apart from support for HDR viewing. Notably, phones powered by the Snapdragon 720G processor are capable of capturing 4K videos or clicking photos with 192MP resolution. Also, the chipset is equipped with the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem that is capable of offering download speeds up to 800Mbps. Other highlights of the Snapdragon 720G chipset include the Adreno 618 GPU, FHD+ screen support, and Quick Charge 4.0 fast charging support.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 662 specifications and features

As per Qualcomm, “Snapdragon 662 brings an astonishing camera and AI capabilities to the 6-series for the first time”. The chipset is equipped with the new Qualcomm Spectra 340T, which allows the budget phones to have three cameras. While the Snapdragon 720G processor has the Snapdragon X15 LTE modem, the Snapdragon 662 SoC has the new Snapdragon X11 LTE modem. This modem is capable of offering download speeds up to 390Mbps and upload speeds up to 150Mbps. Talking about the other highlights, the Snapdragon 662 SoC offers support for FHD+ display resolution, Adreno 610 GPU and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 specifications and features

Talking about the Snapdragon 460, it is touted to offer a significant boost in connectivity, AI features, and cameras. The processor offers performance CPU cores and an improved GPU architecture that provides up to 70 percent and 60 percent higher performance, which is a first for the Snapdragon 4-series. Another first for the series is the Qualcomm Hexagon Vector eXtensions (HVX), which provides the 3rd-gen Qualcomm AI Engine and the Qualcomm Sensing Hub to provide improve AI experiences. Just like the Snapdragon 660 processor, the Snapdragon 460 SoC has the Snapdragon X11 LTE modem. The chipset offers support for FHD+ screens and Quick Charge 3.0, and comes with the Adreno 610 GPU.

According to Qualcomm, the devices powered by the Snapdragon 720G are expected to be launched in the first quarter. While the Snapdragon 662 and Snapdragon 460 chipset-powered products will see the light of the by the end of this year. Notably, Realme’s CEO Madhav Sheth has announced that the brand will launch Snapdragon 720G chipset powered phones this year.
