The Realme 2 is the successor to Realme 1 launched in May 2018. Prior to the launch, the company had teased the device with a tagline ‘A Notch Above’ which hinted at a notch display. Now at an event held in Delhi, the device has been officially launched. Let’s take a look at the technical specifications and features of this device:
Display & Design:
Beginning with the display, the Realme 2 rocks a large 6.1-inch bezel-less display. It has a notch on the top that houses various sensors and the front camera. The display is shielded by Corning Gorilla Glass against accidental damage. Design-wise, the Realme 2 retains the signature diamond cut back design as its predecessor. There is a rear mounted fingerprint scanner that was missing on the Realme 1. The Realme 2 is available in three attractive colors i.e. Diamond Black, Diamond Red and Diamond Blue.
In the optics department, the Realme 2 comes with an upgraded camera. It is equipped with a dual rear camera setup comprising of 13MP+2MP sensors accompanied by LED flash. It is expected to enhance the phone’s low light capabilities as well as offers Portrait mode. For selfies, the device comes with a 8MP snapper that also features AI mode and Bokeh mode. For advanced security purposes, the front camera doubles up as a face recognition feature.
Hardware, Storage & OS:
Under the hood, the Realme 2 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset. For smoother performance, the processor is paired with either 3GB or 4GB RAM depending on the user’s needs. As for storage, the 3GB RAM variant comes with 32GB internal memory and the 4GB RAM variant offers 64GB internal memory. The device features a dedicated microSD card for expanding storage upto 256GB. Out of the box, the Realme 2 runs on custom ColorOS 5.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It offers various features like Smart Unlock, Smart Drive, & AI Board.
Battery & Connectivity:
The Realme 2 is backed by a 4230 mAh battery unit with ‘AI Power Master’. It offers AI based battery optimisations. The device supports a dual 4G VoLTE connectivity which means users can insert 4G SIM cards in both the slots. Other basic connectivity options like 3G, 2G, WiFi, & Bluetooth are included. There is a Micro USB port and a 3.5 mm headphone jack as well.
Pricing & Availability:
The Realme 2 will be available exclusively via e-commerce platform Flipkart. The price of base variant (3GB/32GB) is Rs 8,990. The higher variant (4GB/64GB) retails at Rs 10,990. As for availability, the Diamond Black and Diamond Red color options will go on sale from September 4 at 12pm IST. The Diamond Blue color variant will be available in early October. Consumers can avail launch offers on the purchase of Realme 2. HDFC bank debit and credit card holders will get a flat discount of Rs 750. Telecom operator Reliance Jio is providing an instant cashback of Rs 4,200 along with 120GB of free data for Jio subscribers.
Also Realme has teased a upgrade to this phone, the Realme 2 Pro which will be unveiled in India later this month. The Realme 2 has an attractive design and is the cheapest phone with notch display in India. It will compete against budget smartphones like Redmi Note 5, Honor 7C, and Redmi Y2.
