- Realme aims to launch more 5G phones in India
- All phones launched in 2021 above Rs 20,000 price tag will be 5G compatible
- Realme recently announced the X7 series which falls in the Rs 20k – 30k price segment
Realme unveiled its X7 series in India last week. The standard X7 and X7 Pro are the brand’s mid-range offerings with 5G connectivity. The Chinese brand now offers three 5G compatible smartphones in its portfolio including the Realme X50 Pro, Realme X7 and X7 Pro.
Now in an interview with Indian Express, Realme India CEO Madhav Sheth said that the company aims to be a 5G populariser in India, Europe and other markets. Notably, Realme was the first smartphone brand to bring the 5G compatible X50 Pro 5G to India last year.
All Rs 20,000 and above Realme phones to feature 5G support in 2021
In the interview, Sheth revealed that half the products Realme will launch in India in 2021 will be 5G compatible. Additionally, all smartphones priced above Rs 20,000 will come with support for 5G connectivity.
“To achieve this, we will introduce 5G-enabled smartphones at democratised prices to enable users to experience the latest processor with much-enhanced capability in terms of power management, display optimisation, camera support, gaming performance, etc, and get consumers future-ready for 5G,” Sheth said.
5G connectivity is far from being mainstream in India but this hasn’t stopped smartphone manufacturers from launching 5G compatible devices. Telecom providers Airtel and Jio will roll out 5G networks later this year.
Last year, 5G connectivity was mostly limited to flagship devices. Now, both chipmakers Qualcomm and MediaTek offer mid-range processors that support 5G network. The former offers an affordable Snapdragon 480 processor while the latter has mid-range Dimensity 700 chipset. Thanks to these, we can expect cheap 5G phones to be available in plenty in India this year.
