Realme 6i vs Redmi Note 9 vs POCO M2 Pro: price in India, specifications and features compared

On: July 24, 2020

Realme has announced its third Realme 6 series device in India, the Realme 6i. It joins the Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro in the country. The Realme 6i is essentially the Realme 6 with a 48-megapixel primary camera on the back and a more attractive price tag. The smartphone starts at Rs 12,999 and goes up against devices from the likes of Redmi and POCO.

First, we have the Redmi Note 9, which was launched in India last week. It is the base model of the Note 9 series, which includes the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max. Next up is the budget-friendly smartphone offering from POCO – these M2 Pro. Both these smartphones offer great value for money under Rs 15,000 in India. Let’s find out how the Realme 6i stacks up against these two contenders.

Realme 6i vs Redmi Note 9 vs POCO M2 Pro: price in India

The Realme 6i is being offered in two variants in India – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage. The variants have been priced at Rs 12,999 and Rs 14,999, respectively and can be picked in Lunar Black or Lunar White colours. The smartphone will be available on Flipkart starting 12pm on July 31st.

The new Redmi Note 9 offers more variants including 4GB + 64GB, 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB variants, priced at Rs 11,999, Rs 13,499 and Rs 14,999, respectively. The handset will be available on Amazon, Mi.com and Mi Home stores.

Realme 6i vs Redmi Note 9 vs POCO M2 Pro: display

Coming to the display, the Realme 6i features a 6.5-inch FHD+ display with a punch-hole cutout in the top left corner. The Redmi Note 9 also has a 6.53-inch FHD+  display with a punch-hole cutout. The POCO M2 Pro also has a punch-hole display, but is the largest of the lot with 6.67-inch FHD+ panel.

All three smartphones have a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on top for protection against scratches and shatters. However, the Realme 6i bags this round easily because of the super smooth 90Hz refresh rate. The other two devices feature a standard 60Hz refresh rate.

Winner: Realme 6i

Realme 6i vs Redmi Note 9 vs POCO M2 Pro: performance and software

The POCO M2 Pro comes powered by the Snapdragon 720G and has 48MP quad-camera array

The Realme 6i retains the mid-range powerful gaming chipset from MediaTek – the Helio G90T – accompanied by the Mali-G76MC4 GPU graphics. The POCO M2 Pro gets a more power-efficient 8nm Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G chipset backed by Adreno 618 graphics. The Redmi Note 9 is the first phone to come with MediaTek’s Helio G85 chipset, which is not as powerful as the other two.

As for configurations, the Realme 6i is available in 4GB RAM + 64GB storage and 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variants. The POCO and Redmi offerings both come with three variants and thus offer more options to the buyer. The POCO M2 Pro offers 4GB + 64GB variant, 6GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB models. Lastly, the Redmi Note 9 comes in 4GB + 64GB, 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB variants options.

Speaking of the software, the Realme 6i, Redmi Note 9 and POCO M2 Pro all boot Android 10 as their base software. However, while Realme 6i comes with a Realme UI interface on top, the Redmi Note 9 and POCO M2 Pro both get MIUI 11. The latter features a custom POCO Launcher atop the MIUI 11 and doesn’t serve ads in the interface as well.

Winner: POCO M2 Pro

All three models are equipped with a 48-megapixel quad-camera module on the rear panel. The Realme 6i features a 48-megapixel primary sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens with 119-degree FOV, a 2-megapixel mono portrait and a 2-megapixel macro lens with 4cm focal length. The Redmi Note 9 also gets the same camera setup as the Realme 6i. The POCO M2 Pro, on the other hand, features a higher resolution 5-megapixel macro camera with all other cameras remaining the same.

Coming to the selfie cameras, the Realme 6i and POCO M2 Pro both offer 16-megapixel shooters on the front. The Redmi Note 9 gets a 13-megapixel selfie camera.

Realme 6i vs Redmi Note 9 vs POCO M2 Pro: battery

The Realme 6i, Redmi Note 9 and POCO M2 Pro are powered by 4,300mAh, 5,020mAh and 5,000mAh batteries, respectively. While Realme 6i has the smallest battery, it does come with support for 30W fast charging, whereas the Redmi Note 9 has support for 22.5W fast charging. The POCO M2 Pro comes out on top here with 33W fast charging as well as a beefy battery.

Realme 6i vs Redmi Note 9 vs POCO M2 Pro: verdict

While Redmi Note 9 is the most affordable of the lot here, it doesn’t match up to performance compared to the other two devices. If you are looking for a gaming phone with a 90Hz display on a budget, Realme 6i is the way to go. Lastly, while POCO M2 Pro might be slightly pricier, it offers an all-round package with good performance, faster charging and a clean interface.
