Realme hosted is “Leap To Next Gen” launch event online today with a host of announcements including the Realme 4K SLED Smart TV, audio accessories and host of other lifestyle products. The brand also launched two new smartphones called the Realme 7i and Realme 7 Pro Sun Kissed Leather Edition. The latter is simply the Realme 7 Pro with a vegan leather back panel, while the former was launched earlier in Indonesia.

The Realme 7i starts at Rs 11,999 in India for the base variant and competes with some heavyweights from POCO and Redmi. The new launch goes up against the likes of the Redmi Note 9 and POCO M2 in India. Let’s find out how the Realme 7i fares against the competition.

The Realme 7i has been launched in India in two variants such as 4GB RAM + 6GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. The former is priced at Rs 11,999, whereas the latter will set you back by Rs 12,999. The device is being offered in Fusion Blue and Fusion Green colours.

Coming to the POCO M2, the smartphone is priced at Rs 10,999 for the 64GB variant and Rs 12,499 for the 128GB model. Both variants offer 6GB RAM.  The smartphone is being available in Slate Blue, Brick Red and Pitch Black colours. The smartphone is available on Flipkart.

Lastly, the Redmi Note 9 offers three configurations – 4GB RAM + 64GB storage, 4GB RAM + 128GB storage and 6GB RAM + 128GB storage. These variants are retailing at Rs 11,999, Rs 13,499 and Rs 14,999, respectively. The Redmi Note Note 9 can be purchased from Amazon, Mi.com and Mi Home stores. Buyers have the option to choose from Pebble Grey, Arctic White, and Aqua Green colours.

The Realme 7i midrange phone arrives with 64MP quad rear cameras

The Realme 7i is fitted with a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel that offers an HD+ resolution. The POCO M2 and Redmi Note 9 also feature 6.5-inch display but with sharper FHD+ resolution. The Realme 7i and Redmi Note 9 feature a punch-hole cutout, whereas the POCO M2 has a waterdrop Notch. All three smartphones have a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass protecting the display.

While the POCO M2 and Redmi Note 9 offer a sharper display, they come with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The Realme 7i, on the other hand, is the most affordable smartphone to offer 90Hz ultra-smooth display and thus bags this round.

The POCO M2 and Redmi Note 9 are powered by MediaTek Helio G-series gaming chipsets, whereas the new Realme 7i has a Snapdragon processor. The POCO M2 has the MediaTek Helio G80 processor and the Redmi Note 9 features the Helio G85 SoC. The Realme 7i features the 11nm, 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 662 processor. The MediaTek Helio G85 powering the Redmi Note 9 comes out on top here.

The POCO M2 and Redmi Note 9 boot Android 10-based MIUI 11 out of the box, but the former gets an additional layer of POCO Launcher on top. The Realme 7i also gets Android 10 as the base software with Realme UI 1.0 on top.

In the camera department, all three smartphones are equipped with a quad-camera setup on the back. Starting with the POCO M2, it features a 13-megapixel primary sensor backed by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, 5-megapixel macro lens, and 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Redmi Note 9 features 48-megapixel primary lens accompanied by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, 2-megapixel macro lens, and 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The Realme 7i is the best of the lot here with its 64-megapixel main lens, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, a 2-megapixel macro camera, and a 2-megapixel depth assist lens. The Realme 7i also has the highest resolution 16-megapixel selfie camera. The Redmi Note 9 and POCO M2 have a 13-megapixel and 8-megapixel selfie cameras, respectively.

Coming to the battery, the Realme 7i and POCO M2 are both powered by a 5,000mAh unit with support for 18W fast charging. The Redmi Note 9 wins this round with its 5,020mAh battery and 22.5W fast charging as well as 9W reverse charging.

The Redmi Note 9 comes out on top here with more configurations to choose from, a better processor and faster charging. However, the Realme 7i offers a 90Hz display, 64-megapixel quad cameras, and 16-megapixel selfie camera at a starting price of Rs 11,999, which makes it one of the best value for money offerings under Rs 12,000.
