Realme held its Camera Innovation Event today to showcase its innovative 108-megapixel camera technology, which will make its debut on the Realme 8 series.
Back in 2019, Realme announced the Realme XT as India’s first smartphone with a 64-megapixel camera. The camera technology event revealed that the upcoming Realme 8 Pro will be sporting a 108-megapixel camera. The company also confirmed some of the key photography features that will be available on the Realme 8 Pro.
Realme 108MP camera features
During the event, the company showcased the photography capabilities of the Realme 8 Pro. The handset was seen sporting a punch-hole display and a square-shaped camera island. It will be sporting the Samsung ISOCELL HM2 108-megapixel sensor as the primary camera. It has a sensor size of 1/1.52-inch and is capable of capturing shots with an effective resolution of 12,000 x 9,000 pixels. The lens supports 9-in-1 pixel binning technology and up to 3x lossless zoom.
Realme’s In-Sensor Zoom camera technology is designed to offer better image clarity in cropped and zoomed images captured using a 108-megapixel camera. When 3x mode is selected on the Realme 8 Pro, the In-Sensor Zoom technology kicks in to take eight 12-megapixel photos and combine them together using the clarity lens algorithm to generate a higher clarity zoomed/cropped image. The company claims that such a photo is even clearer than images captured using an optical telephoto lens in terms of sharpness.
New Starry Mode
The Realme X3 SuperZoom from last year came with Starry Mode to capture the night sky. The second-generation Starry Mode will be made available on the upcoming Realme 8 series smartphones from the brand. With optimised imaging process through ISP in SoC, it can capture stars with brightening effects.
The New Starry Mode also comes with a time-lapse video recording feature. Usually, such kinds of videos can be shot by recording multiple video clips and then synthesize and combine them through video editing software. The starry time-lapse video mode substitutes the process by using its algorithm. It captures 30 photos in 480 seconds and then merges them into a1 second time-lapse video. During the process, it consumes less RAM and storage. This process can be repeated to capture a longer video.
Tilt-Shift Photography captures a miniature landscape image with a bokeh effect that focuses on a particular part and blurs out the remaining areas. The Tilt-Shift Photography features available on the Realme 8 Pro provides various options like shape, size, angle, transition, and position for the desired bokeh effect. In addition, the Realme 8 Pro will be the world’s first phone to come with a tilt-shift time-lapse video shooting feature.
New Portrait Filters
Realme announced the Realme 8 series will provide users with three new photography filters named Neon Portrait, Dynamic Bokeh Portrait, and AI Color Portrait.
Lastly, Realme stated that its number series smartphones will focus on offering a better photography experience along with innovative camera technology in the future. The company is yet to confirm the launch date of the Realme 8 series.
