Realme 8i launch in India finally took place after solid hype and marketing by the brand in the last few days. The new launch comes as India’s first MediaTek Helio G96-powered smartphone. The Realme 8i is also the cheapest smartphone in the country to offer a 120Hz display. Realme has priced the latest launch quite aggressively at Rs 13,999.

At this price point, the latest Realme 8i goes up against Redmi’s latest launch – 10 Prime. Just like the Realme 8i, the Redmi 10 Prime is also the first smartphone in India to bring the new Helio G88 processor. Both these phones offer high refresh rate displays, similar RAM and storage configurations, 50MP primary cameras, and beefy batteries with 18W fast charging. The Realme 8i is available in two variants in the country. The base variant has 4GB RAM with 64GB storage with the price set at Rs 13,999. The top-end variant offers 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, and it can be purchased for Rs 15,999. The Realme 8i is available in Space Black and Space Purple colours. The smartphone can be picked up from realme.com and Flipkart.

The Redmi 10 Prime also comes in same configurations – 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB. These variants can be picked for Rs 12,499 and Rs 14,499, respectively. Redmi is offering Phantom Black, Astral White, and Bitfrost Blue colour options. The smartphone can be purchased from Amazon, Mi.com, Mi Home stores in the country.

Coming to the display, the Realme 8i is the cheapest smartphone in the country to offer a 120Hz display. The screen offers six-level dynamic refresh rate shifting from 30Hz for static content to 120Hz for gaming. The LCD panel itself measures 6.6-inch and offers an FHD+ screen resolution to users. The Redmi 10 Prime, on the other hand, has a smaller 6.5-inch screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. The LCD panel offers FHD+ screen resolution as well.

Coming to performance, the Realme 8i is the first smartphone in India to come with the Helio G96 processor. This is a 2.05GHz, octa-core processor manufactured using 12nm fabrication. The processor is backed by 4GB or 6GB RAM depending on the variant. The smartphone supports Dynamic RAM expansion (DRE) up to 5GB RAM. On the storage front, you get 64GB and 128GB options depending on the variant you pick.

The Redmi 10 Prime, on the other hand, is the first smartphone in the country to be powered by the MediaTek Helio G88 SoC. This is also a 2GHz octa-core processor with a 12nm die size. The Redmi 10 Prime also comes in the same configurations as the Realme 8i but offers RAM expansion up to 2GB as compared to 5GB.

According to online reviews, the MediaTek Helio G96 processor beats Helio G88 in the performance and graphics department by miles. However, both processors offer similar battery efficiency. As for software, both phones boot Android 11 out of the box but while Realme 8i features the Realme UI 2.0 interface, Redmi 10 Prime comes with MIUI 12.5.
