Last month, when Xiaomi launched the Redmi 8A smartphone in India, the brand’s global VP Manu Kumar Jain teased the launch of the Redmi 8 in the country. Today, the company has announced that it will be launching the Redmi 8 in India on October 9th. The handset recently went on sale on Ali Express priced around Rs 9,000 in China. The phone is a budget offering with dual primary cameras at the rear and a waterdrop notch above the screen. There’s also a fingerprint sensor at the back, which is placed below the vertical camera module.

Redmi 8 specifications
The Redmi 8 sports a 6.22-inch display that offers a resolution of 1,520 x 720 pixels. The handset also has a protective layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 on top of the screen. Under the hood, you have Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 439 processor, which is aided by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of native storage, that can be further increased by inserting a microSD card. The software-side of things is handled by MIUI 10 that’s based on Android Pie.
In the camera department, the Redmi 8 has a 12-megapixel primary camera at the back with an aperture of f/2.2 and phase detection autofocus. The main camera sensor is accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth-sensing shooter. In the front, you have an 8MP camera, which is housed inside the waterdrop notch. The connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-SIM slots, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and A-GPS. A beefy 5,000mAh battery keeps the whole package running.
