At an event in India today, Xiaomi launched its latest Redmi series smartphone, the Redmi 8A in the country. At the same event, the company’s Global VP and MD for India, Manu Kumar Jain, teased the Redmi 8 for India. At the end of the live stream, he gave us a glimpse of the Redmi 8 that’s yet to be released in any other market. While he didn’t reveal the launch date of the phone, we do know that the Redmi 8 will be the next Xiaomi phone to launch in the country.
Xiaomi hasn’t yet revealed Redmi 8 price in India or specifications. However, Manu’s teaser has revealed that the smartphone will arrive with a dual primary camera setup at the rear. A couple of recently leaked images of the handset gave us a better look at the rear camera module of the device. Xiaomi is expected to officially unveil the Redmi 8 at an event in China on October 1st. The teaser for the event has indicated that the phone will flaunt a 48MP primary camera at the back.
As for the Redmi 8A, it has launched as the most affordable smartphone with 18W fast charging support in India. The handset is loaded with a massive 5,000mAh battery, which is not usually found on the phones in its price segment. As for the other features, the smartphone has a 6.2-inch HD+ display with a waterdrop notch above. The handset is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor. The handset comes in two RAM and storage configurations – 2GB + 32GB and 3GB + 32GB. The camera specs include a 12MP rear snapper and an 8MP selfie snapper. The handset also has P2i splash-proof coating and Gorilla Glass 5 protection.
Talking about the price the Redmi 8A’s base 2GB / 32GB variant has been priced at Rs 6,499, while the higher-end 3GB / 32GB model will set you back by Rs 6,999. The smartphone will be available from September 29th on Flipkart and Mi.com.
