At the launch event of the Redmi 8A in India earlier this month, Xiaomi’s India head Manu Kumar Jain teased the launch of the Redmi 8 smartphone in the country. Today, ahead of India, the Chinese tech giant seems to have quietly released the handset in China. While the device is yet to appear on the brand’s website, the e-commerce portal Ali Express has started selling the Redmi 8. The listing on the e-tailer’s website has also revealed the specifications, images, and design details of the smartphone.
Redmi 8 specifications and features
The Redmi 8 has arrived as a budget offering with dual primary cameras and a waterdrop notch above the screen. The handset has minimal bezels around the screen and a fingerprint sensor, which is placed under the vertical camera module. The phone has a 6.22-inch display bearing a resolution of 720 x 1,520 pixels and a layer of Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The device boots Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 out of the box.
Under the hood, the Remdi 8 sports a Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 processor, which is accompanied by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. In the camera department, you have a 12MP main f/2.2 camera at the rear with PDAF, which is aided by a 2MP depth sensor. For selfies and video calling, there’s an 8MP shooter onboard the smartphone. A 5,000mAh battery with 10W charging keeps the whole package alive.
Redmi 8 price and availability
The Redmi 8 is available from Ali Express for around Rs 9,000. The smartphone is being offered in Black and Red colour variants. As of now, there’s no word regarding the handset’s availability in India.
