Redmi 8A with 5,000mAh battery and USB Type-C port launched, prices start at Rs 6,499

Xiaomi has officially announced the Redmi 8A entry-level smartphone in India. The handset has arrived with an enticing price tag of Rs 6,499, and succeeds the Redmi 7A that was announced with the same pricing in May this year. It is the only smartphone in its price segment to come with USB Type-C port that enables fast charging for its massive 5,000mAh battery. The handset comes with other exciting features like a tall aspect ratio and impressive rear camera.

 Xiaomi Redmi 8A Specifications and Features

The Redmi 8A has a polycarbonate chassis with an ‘aura wave grip patter” for better grip. It measures 156.3 x 75.4 x 9.4mm and it weighs 188 grams. The P2i coating protects the phone from water splashes.

The Redmi 7A had featured a 5.45-inch HD+ 18:9 display. Its successor is equipped with a bigger display measuring 6.2-inches with a waterdrop notch. The smartphone produces HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. The display of the phone is protected by Gorilla Glass 5.

The Snapdragon 439 mobile platform that includes 2GHz octa-core processor which powered by the Redmi 7A is also present under the hood of the Redmi 8A. The smartphones come in RAM variants of up to 3GB. Both models come with 32GB of native storage. A microSD card slot is available on the device for expanding the storage further.

The Redmi 8A retains the f/1.8 Sony IMX363 12-megapixel rear camera from its predecessor. The pixel size of 1.4 micron is 25 percent larger than what was offered on the Redmi 7A. This allows the phone to capture better shots in dim light conditions. Also, it comes with dual PD autofocus to avoid blurry images. Other photography features for the rear camera include AI portrait mode and AI scene detection. Placed on the front is an 8-megapixel selfie snapper that comes with AI portrait mode.

MIUI 10 based on Android 9 Pie comes preloaded on the device. The Redmi 8A is fitted with a massive 5,000mAh battery. Also, it is the first Redmi A series phone to come equipped with support for 18W fast charging.

The Redmi 8A lacks a fingerprint scanner. Hence, users are provided with face unlock as the sole biometric recognition feature on the device. The smartphone is also equipped with wireless FM radio.

Redmi 8A Price and Release Date

The Redmi 8A models – 2GB RAM + 32GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. They are priced at Rs 6,499 and Rs 6,999 respectively. It can be availed in Midnight Black, Ocean Blue and Sunset Red colours. The handset will be available for purchase through Flipkart and The first sale of the phone will begin on September 29th at 11:59pm.

Xiaomi also confirmed that it soon be launching the Redmi 8, however, we don’t have any details on the specifications yet.
