After appearing on TENAA earlier, a likely Xiaomi Redmi 8A model has now also appeared on China’s China Compulsory Certificate (CCC) certification portal today. The model number is Xiaomi M1908C3KE for the entry-level handset and one of the variants has also showed up on Thailand’s NBTC with M1908C3KG model number. The Redmi 8A hasn’t been short of any leaks and the TENAA model that was detected earlier was M1908C3IC, which is very similar to the Redmi 7’s model number. Xiaomi has already announced the Redmi Note 8 series in China but the Redmi 8A remains elusive for now. However, after this CCC certification, it looks likely to launch soon.
Coming to the CCC certification details, the Redmi 7A successor will have a 10W charger as the passed documents show a 5VDC 2.0A charging capacity. That’s pretty much what we expect as the handset is a simple entry-level device. The NBTC certification is pretty explicit in stating that the M1908C3KG model is indeed the Redmi 8A. Now, do note that the previous TENAA listing could very well be of the Redmi 8 as well, however, when combined with an authentic leaked image, the TENAA entry looks likely to belong to the Redmi 8A. Regardless, based on previous information, the affordable handset is likely to pack an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 439 SoC backed by a beefy 5,000mAh battery, the biggest on an entry-level Redmi phone yet. It could very well be run MIUI 9.7 based on Android Pie at launch although we wouldn’t rule out MIUI 10.
In terms of design, the Redmi 8A will take the leap to a teardrop notch design with dual rear cameras placed centrally on the rear panel. The TENAA document, if it indeed belongs to the Redmi 8A, 6.217-inch HD+ (720×1520 pixels) TFT display with a 19:9 aspect ratio. It should also boast a 12-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel selfie camera. There has been an official hint that the Redmi 8A is coming but the launch date is still not official yet. However, we could see a launch very soon.
