Earlier this month, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 9 in Spain. The brand has now debuted the device in its home country. The smartphone retains the same specifications as its Spanish counterpart but comes with MIUI 12 based Android 10 and up to 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.

The Redmi 9 will follow up the Redmi 8 launched in India last October. Now a phone with the same model number as the Redmi 9 (M2004J19I) has been spotted on the BIS as well as TUV Rheinland certification website. Interestingly, it has been listed under the POCO brand, which indicates that the phone could launch under POCO branding in India. If that is the case, it would be the most affordable POCO phone launched yet.

As for the Redmi 9 specifications, the smartphone features an FHD+ display measuring 6.53-inches and a waterdrop notch on the top. The device sports a Redmi K30-like quad-camera setup comprising of 13MP main sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 5MP macro and 2MP depth camera. The smartphone is fitted with an 8MP selfie snapper. The back panel houses a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Redmi 9 is equipped with an Helio G80 processor. In China, the device is offered in three RAM and storage configurations up to 6GB and 128GB respectively. The smartphone draws its power from a 5,020mAh battery unit with support for 18W charging via USB-C port. The Redmi 9 runs the latest Android 10 with MIUI 12 skinned on the top. Connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, Bluetooth 5.0, dedicated microSD card slot, NFC, IR Blaster, and 3.5mm audio jack.
Redmi 9 pricing and availability
The base variant of Redmi 9 i.e. 4GB + 64GB has been priced at RMB 799 (~Rs 8,500) while the 4GB + 128GB variant costs RMB 999 (~Rs 10,700). The higher-end 6GB + 128GB model carries a price tag of RMB 1,199 (~Rs 12,800).
