In Spain and China, Xiaomi’s Redmi 9 series consists of a standard variant, Redmi 9A and Redmi 9C. Earlier this month, the brand had launched the Redmi 9 Prime in India. Now the smartphone maker has introduced a new device in the lineup called the Redmi 9.
The Redmi 9 is a slightly tweaked variant of the Redmi 9C which is offered in China. The latest offering will take on the Realme’s recently launched C-series smartphones including the Realme C11 (review), C12 (review) and C15. Let’s find out what the Redmi 9 has in the store for us.
Redmi 9 specifications and features
On the display front, the Xiaomi Redmi 9 features a 6.53-inch screen with a waterdrop notch and HD+ resolution. It sports a square-shaped dual camera module on the back. The setup consists of a 13MP primary sensor with a 2MP depth unit, paired with an LED flash. Up front, the device is fitted with a 5MP selfie snapper. The Redmi 9 lacks a conventional fingerprint scanner and relies on face unlock for security.
On the hardware front, the Redmi 9 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G35 SoC. The device is offered with only 4GB RAM, paired with two storage options of 64GB and 128GB. The internal storage is expandable via a dedicated microSD card slot. The smartphone features Hyper Engine game technology for improved gaming performance. The Redmi 9 is backed by a 5,000mAh battery unit. Software-wise, it runs the latest MIUI 12 based on Android 10.
Connectivity options on the Redmi 9 include VoWiFi support, 3.5mm jack, IR Blaster and microUSB port.
Redmi 9 price in India
Xiaomi has set the price of the Redmi 9 4GB + 64GB variant at Rs 8,999, while the 4GB + 128GB model will cost Rs 9,999. The smartphone will be available for purchase from August 31st on Amazon, mi.com, Mi Studio and offline retail partners. The smartphone is being offered in three colour options – Sporty Orange, Sky Blue and Carbon Black.
