Xiaomi has launched its latest budget smartphone called the Redmi 9 Prime in India. The smartphone is a rebranded Redmi 9, which was launched globally last month. The new device retains all specs of the global variant and is the successor to the last year’s Redmi 8 (review).

The Redmi 9 Prime features a waterdrop notch display, MediaTek Helio G80 gaming processor and a 5,020mAh battery unit with support for 18W charging as its key highlights. Moreover, the smartphone has been priced competitively starting from Rs 9,999. The Redmi 9 Prime competes with the Realme Narzo 10 (review) and Samsung Galaxy M11 in India. Starting with the Redmi 9 Prime, the smartphone has been launched at Rs 9,999 for the 4GB + 64GB variant, while the top-end 4GB + 128GB variant will retail for Rs 11,999. The smartphone will go sale for the first time on August 6th through a Special Early Access Sale and then will be made available from August 17th. The Redmi 9 Prime will be available on Mi.com, Amazon, Mi Homes and Mi Studios.

The Narzo 10 coms in a single variant – 4GB + 128GB and is priced identically to the Redmi 9 Prime at Rs 11,999. The smartphone is being sold through flash sales and can be bought from Realme.com, Flipkart and retail stores.

The Samsung Galaxy M11, on the other hand, has been launched in two configurations – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB with prices set at Rs 10,999 and Rs 12,999, respectively. The smartphone can be picked from Samsung offline stores, Samsung.com, Amazon and Flipkart.

Redmi 9 Prime wins this round as it offers a more affordable variant for those who are tight on budget.

As for the display, while the Redmi 9 Prime and Realme Narzo 10 come with a waterdrop notch screen, the Samsung Galaxy M11 features an Infinity-O display with a single punch-hole cutout. The Redmi 9 Prime is equipped with a 6.53-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 for protection against accidental damages and scratches. The display offers a screen resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels.

The Realme Narzo 10 also features a 6.5-inch screen with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. However, the resolution is a notch below Redmi 9 Prime at 1,600 x 720 pixels. Lastly, the Samsung Galaxy M11 PLS TFT display measuring 6.4-inch with 1,560 x 720 pixels resolution. Unlike its competitors, the Galaxy M11 doesn’t have the protective Corning Gorilla Glass 3 layer on top.

In terms of performance, the Redmi 9 Prime and Realme Narzo 10 are on par with each other. Both these smartphones have the mid-range gaming processor from MediaTek – Helio G80 ticking at their cores. The Helio G80 is a 2GB octa-core processor backed by a Mali-G52 GPU. The Samsung Galaxy M11, on the other hand, features the Snapdragon 450 chipset.

As for the configurations, the Realme 9 Prime offers two variants – 4GB + 64GB and 4GB + 128GB. The Realme Narzo 10 comes in a single 4GB + 128GB variant. Samsung Galaxy M11 can be bought in either  3GB + 32GB configuration or 4GB + 64GB setup.

In the software department, all three smartphones boot Android 10 as their base software with respective custom interface of their brands on top. The Redmi 9 Prime features MIUI 11, the Realme Narzo 10 gets Realme UI and Samsung Galaxy M11 features One UI on top of Android 10.

In the optics department, the Samsung Galaxy M11 is the odd one out here with a triple-camera module on the back, while the other two feature a quad-camera setup. The Galaxy M11 offers a 13-megapixel primary camera backed by 5MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth sensor.

The Redmi 9 Prime features a 13-megapixel primary lens, 8-megapixel wide-angle lens, 5-megapixel macro shooter and 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Realme Narzo 10 is the winner here with a 48-megapixel main sensor, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide, 2-megapixel black and white portrait camera and a 2-megapixel macro camera.

As for selfie cameras, Redmi 9 Prime and Samsung Galaxy M11 are both equipped with an 8-megapixel shooter in the front. The Realme Narzo 10 comes out on top here as well, as it features a 16-megapixel selfie camera.

In terms of battery, Realme Narzo 10 and Samsung Galaxy M11 feature a 5,000mAh battery with 18W and 15W fast charging support, respectively. The Redmi 9 Prime gets a slightly bigger battery with 5,020mAh capacity and 18W fast charging support. However, it ships with a 10W charger in the box.

The Redmi 9 Prime offers an all-round package with price starting at Rs 9,999. You get an immersive display, powerful gaming processor, massive battery and fast charging. However, if you were considering the 4GB + 128GB variant, it’s advisable to get the Realme Narzo 10, which offers higher resolution cameras with similar performance.
