Earlier this year in October, Xiaomi introduced the Redmi 8 smartphone. The Chinese brand is now reportedly planning to release the successor called the Redmi 9 in early next year. According to a report by 91mobiles, the handset will be released at some point in the first quarter of 2020. The phone is said to come with MediaTek’s Helio G70 processor, which hasn’t been officially unveiled by the chipset maker yet. The source suggests that the Redmi 9’s MediaTek Helio G70 chipset will be placed below the Helio G90 and Helio G90T processors, which were unveiled this year.

The source suggests that the Redmi 9 will be first introduced in China in Q1 2020, and then it will reach the Indian shores soon after the unveiling. The phone will reportedly feature a 6.6-inch display with a Dot notch above it. One of the variants of the Redmi 9 will offer 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, and some other memory configurations will also be in the offing. Unfortunately, there’s no word regarding the other specifications of Redmi 9 at the moment.
Talking about the Redmi 8, the smartphone features a 6.22-inch HD+ display with a layer of Gorilla Glass 5 on top. The handset is powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 439 processor. The device comes in two RAM and storage variants – 3GB + 32GB and 4GB + 64GB. Software-wise, the phone offers Android 9 Pie-based MIUI 10 out of the box. For security purposes, you get a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor.
For imaging, the Redmi 8 features a 12MP Sony IMX363 camera on the back, which is aided by a 2MP secondary shooter that offers depth-sensing functions. For selfies and video-calling, the smartphone has been fitted with an 8MP shooter. In terms of connectivity, you get 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, dual-SIM slots, USB Type-C port, and A-GPS. A 5,000mAh battery with 18W fast charging support completes the list of the specifications of the Redmi 8.
Xiaomi is currently only offering the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage variant of the Redmi 8 on its website in India. This model costs Rs 7,999 and is available in Onyx Black, Ruby Red, Sapphire Blue, and Emerald Green colour variants.
