Yesterday, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 9 in India. It debuted as a slightly modified version of the Redmi 9C in China. Now, the brand is set to introduce the Redmi 9A in the country on September 2nd at 12pm, and it will go on sale starting September 4th. Both Manu Kumar Jain and Redmi India took to Twitter to share the launch announcement.
The upcoming offering will the third device in the Redmi 9 series and positioned below the Redmi 9. It is expected to retain the same specifications as its Malaysian counterpart.

Redmi 9A specifications and features
The international variant of the Redmi 9A features a 6.53-inch screen bearing a HD+ resolution. It packs a single 13MP rear camera with a LED flash stacked vertically. The device lacks a conventional fingerprint scanner. The smartphone comes with a 5MP front-facing camera. The Redmi 9A is offered in Midnight Grey, Peacock Green and Twilight Blue colour options.
The Redmi 9A is powered by MediaTek Helio G20 SoC. It is coupled with 2GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage. There is also a dedicated microSD card slot for storage expansion. The smartphone is equipped with a massive 5,000mAh battery unit and runs on MIUI 11 out of the box.
Redmi 9A pricing and availability
The Redmi 9A costs RM 599 (~Rs 6,400) in Malaysia. We expect it to be priced similarly and below the recently launched Redmi 9 that starts at Rs 8,999 for the base variant. The upcoming smartphone is confirmed to go on sale from September 4th, just two days after launch.
