Recently, some rumours suggested that Xiaomi might launch the successor to its Mi Band 4 on April 3rd in China. However, Redmi has now posted a couple of teasers on Weibo hinting at its debut wearable launch on the same date. It’s safe to assume that it’s not just the Mi Band 5 that will be launched on the said date but Redmi’s first wearable as well. The teaser poster also reveals the launch time and details of the event. However, the brand has kept all other details of the fitness tracker under the wraps except that it might likely be called Redmi Band.
In the first teaser poster shared by Redmi, we can see a wrist with a Redmi-branded band made of silicon/fabric. The poster also doesn’t give any clear indication as to whether the wearable could be a watch or a band. However, considering the brand decided to depict a band, it was assumed that its a fitness band. The Chinese text on the poster translates to, ‘First wearable device, See you live at Smart Inn Mi Fan Festival at 2pm.’
It’s the second poster that throws more light on the design and display of the Redmi Band and confirms that it’s indeed a fitness band. We can see four rectangular slab-like fitness tracker with different silicon bands in the poster including red, black, blue and olive. The text on this poster reads that the Redmi Band will feature a large colour display, which we can see in the image as well.
The second poster also confirms the April 3rd launch date at the same time, confirming it’s indeed the Redmi Band. The event is being held in China, which means it will kick off in India at 11.30am. The Redmi Band is expected to come with the same set of features as Mi Bands like AMOLED touchscreen display, fitness tracking, heart rate monitor, and more. Moreover, since the Smart Inn Mi Fan Festival is being organised by Xiaomi, we can expect the Mi Band 5 to launch as well, which will come as an upgrade to the much popular Mi Smart Band 4.
To recap, the Xiaomi Mi Smart Band 4 features a 0.95-inch AMOLED colour display with 240 x 120 pixels resolution. Users can control the music, volume, check notifications, reject calls and more from the display. The Mi Smart Band 4 also comes with various fitness tracking features like heart rate monitor, pedometer and sleep tracking. Thanks to the 5ATM water-resistance, the Mi Smart Band 4 features swim tracking as well and can detect swimming activities such as Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly Stroke, and Medley. In the battery department, the Mi Smart Band 4 offers up to 20 days of battery life on a single charge with moderate usage.
The Mi Smart Band 4 was priced at Rs 2,299, making it one of the most affordable fitness trackers. We can expect Redmi Band to follow in its footsteps.
