Yesterday, MediaTek announced two 5G-enabled processors called Dimensity 1200 and Dimensity 1100. These are aimed towards flagship phones. The Dimensity 1200 is the successor to last year’s Dimensity 1000+ SoC.
Now Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi is all set to enter the gaming smartphone segment this year. Redmi GM Lu Weibing confirmed the news on Chinese micro-blogging platform Weibo and added that the device will be launched at a ‘price that cannot be refused.’ He also confirmed that the device will be powered by the latest Dimensity 1200 chipset.
Weibing also revealed in his Weibo post that the third generation Redmi K40 will be launched next month. However, it’s unclear if the upcoming device will also be equipped with Dimensity 1200 processor. It could also mean that we could see two Redmi phones with MediaTek’s latest chipset. The Xiaomi sub-brand is yet to share more information about its upcoming offerings.
The Redmi gaming phone is expected to take on the likes of Black Shark, Nubia, ASUS ROG etc. For now, all we know is that it is confirmed to debut this year.
