Today, at the Snapdragon Tech Summit 2019 event, Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 865 and Snapdragon 765 / 765 5G chipsets. The Snapdragon 865 is designed to power flagship phones in 2020. The SoC will come bundled with X55 5G modem for 5G connectivity. The Snapdragon 765 / 765G is a 5G modem integrated chipset that will power mid-range 5G phones in 2020. At the tech summit event, Xiaomi President Lin Bin confirmed that the Xiaomi Mi 10 will be one of the first phones to feature the Snapdragon 865. He went on to confirm that the Redmi K30 5G that is scheduled to debut on December 10th in China will be the first phone to feature the Snapdragon 765G processor.
Qualcomm has not revealed the specifications of the Snapdragon 765G chipset yet. What’s known about the SoC is that it is equipped with Snapdragon X52 5G modem that carries support for sub-6GHz Standalone (SA) and Non-Standalone (NSA) 5G connectivity. The SoC offers download speeds of up to 3.7Gbps. The Snapdragon 765G is designed to offer better graphics and advanced AI performance with 5th generation AIE that delivers computing power of 5 TOPs.
A couple of official renders of the Redmi K30 5G, including the one shown below has revealed its rear design. The Redmi K30 5G’s vertical quad camera setup is surrounded by a ring with a glossy finish. A closer look at the text surrounding the ring reveals ‘64MP AI Super Camera.’ Moreover, a tipster from China has claimed that the Redmi K30 will be equipped with Sony IMX686 as the primary lens.
Last month, Sony had teased the Sony IMX686 sensor, but it hasn’t officially launched it yet. The tipster has stated that it is a 1.1/73” sensor with f/1.89 aperture. He has further stated that quad camera setup of the Redmi K30 5G will include an 8-megapixel lens, a 5-megapixel sensor and a 2-megapixel lens.
Redmi has released few more posters to confirm the size of its display. As can be seen in the above poster, the Redmi K30 5G will flaunt a 6.67-inch IPS LCD display. The Redmi K20 had featured a 6.39-inch AMOLED display with an in-screen fingerprint reader. The upcoming Redmi K30 5G will have a side-mounted fingerprint reader.
The display of the Redmi K30 5G features a pill-shaped cutout at the upper-right corner. It will be housing two front-facing cameras. Redmi has revealed that the size of the cutout is 4.38mm. It is because of the traditional habit of reading from left to right that the company opted on placing the camera punch-hole at the top-right corner. Lastly, the rear side of the Redmi K30 5G features AG frosted glass. The rest of the specs of the smartphone are currently under wraps.
Redmi is expected to launch 4G and 5G editions of the Redmi K30 on December 10th. Rumours suggest that the Redmi K30 Pro 5G will be made official in early 2020.
