Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition launched: Snapdragon 865, pop-up selfie cameras and more

In December 2019, Redmi had announced the Redmi K30 4G and Redmi K30 5G smartphones in China. The latter arrived as arrived as a premium mid-range 5G phone fuelled by the Snapdragon 765G mobile platform, 120Hz refresh rate display and dual punch-hole selfie cameras. Today, the company has unveiled the Redmi K30 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition smartphones in China. The handsets appear to be successors to the Redmi K20 Pro from last year, as they feature full-screen displays and pop-up selfie cameras. Compared to the K20 Pro, they pack larger batteries with faster wired charging support.

The Redmi K30 Pro could launch as the POCO F2 in India

The Redmi K30 Pro 5G features a 6.67-inch S-AMOLED display that delivers full HD+ resolution. Unlike current flagship phones, the K30 Pro duo feature conventional 60Hz refresh rate displays. Other display features include a peak brightness of 1,200 nits, DC dimming, blue ray filter and HDR10+. The AMOLED screen is integrated with a fingerprint reader and it offers a screen-to-body ratio of 92.7 percent. The K30 Pro Zoom Edition features the same screen as the K30 Pro.

The Snapdragon 865 mobile platform powers both smartphones, along with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. There is a dedicated microSD card slot onboard for expanding the storage. Both phones run Android 10 with MIUI 11.

The Redmi K30 Pro features a 20-megapixel pop-up selfie snapper. Like the K20 Pro, the K30 Pro’s pop-up camera is rigged with a five-colour LED backlight. The selfie camera supports 120fps slow-motion video recording and time-lapse photography. The rear camera setup includes a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 primary shooter, a 123-degree 13-megapixel ultrawide lens, an industry first 50mm macro lens and a 2-megapixel portrait lens.

The Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition features an 8-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom instead of the 50mm macro lens. The main 64-megapixel camera and telephoto sensor of the Zoom Edition feature dual OIS. Other camera features are identical to the Redmi K30 Pro. Both phones are capable at shooting 8K videos.

The Redmi K30 Pro series are equipped with a vapour chamber liquid cooled heat sink for enhanced thermal performance and better heat dissipation. They are backed by 4,700mAh batteries with 33W fast charging.

The Redmi K30 Pro duo is capable of simultaneously connecting to 5G and Wi-Fi 6 networks for superior connectivity. The handset is equipped with the latest Bluetooth 5.1 technology. The handset comes with other features such as a 4D linear motor, dual SIM, 4G LTE, dual-frequency GPS, NFC, USB-C, IR blaster, Hi-Res Audio support and 3.5mm audio jack. Lastly, the phone comes with an IP53-rated 3D curved glass rear panel.

Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition price and availability

The Redmi K30 Pro is available in three variants, 6GB RAM (LPDDR4X) + 128GB storage, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. They are priced at RMB 2,999 (~Rs 32,300) and RMB 3,399 (~Rs 36,600) and RMB 3,699 (~Rs 39,900) respectively.

The Redmi K30 Pro Zoom Edition comes in two options, 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage. They are priced at RMB 3,799 (~Rs 40,900) and RMB 3,999 (~Rs 43,000) respectively. The K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition can be bought in four colours such as Moonlight White, Sky Blue, Purple and Space Gray.

At the event, Redmi announced its partnership with the Keith Haring Foundation, and launched custom cases for the Redmi K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom Edition. Each case is priced at RMB 49 (~Rs 530).

There is no word on the India launch of the Redmi K30 Pro. Since the Redmi K30 4G was rebranded as the POCO X2 in India, it is speculated that the Redmi K30 Pro may arrive in the country as the POCO F2.
