Although Xiaomi introduced the Redmi sub-brand for its budget devices, the strategy changed last with smartphones like the Redmi K20 and the K20 Pro vying for a share of the premium segment. The Chinese firm recently unveiled the Redmi K30 Pro (codenamed Imi) and the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom (codenamed Imipro) smartphones in China. Rumours have suggested that Xiaomi plans to introduce the K30 Pro in India as the POCO F2. This is hardly surprising, since the Redmi K30 4G which launched in China in December 2019 arrived in India as the POCO X2 last month. XDA Developers forums members have now scoured through the latest version of the MIUI camera, to find evidence that suggest that Redmi K30 Pro could be coming to India as a POCO-branded phone.
While sifting through the camera codes on the latest version of the MIUI camera, an XDA memner came across the term ‘Imiin’, which seems to be a codename for the Indian variant of the Redmi K30 Pro 5G. Digging deeper into the code, the user also found a constant called ‘device_poco_watermark_default_text’ containing the ‘SHOT ON POCO Phone’ string. This is a good hint that the Redmi K30 Pro will under the POCO brand in India. However, as there is no official communication from Xiaomi or POCO at the moment, it is advisable to wait for further reports to confirm this.
