When the Redmi K30 was rebranded as the POCO X2 (first impressions) in India, it was believed that its higher-specced sibling, the K30 Pro would be unveiled as the POCO F2 in the country. That was until POCO India GM C. Manmohan shot down these rumours. He confirmed that while the POCO F2 is currently in works, it would not be a rebranded version of the Redmi K30 Pro, as widely anticipated. Now, a new Google listing of Play-certified devices has revealed that in some global markets, the Redmi K30 Pro could be launched as the POCO F2 Pro, but India is unlikely to be on the list.
POCO F2 Pro could be a rebranded Redmi K30 Pro in some markets
Google’s list of Play-certified devices happens to be a list of smartphones that can avail Google Services. The Redmi K30 Pro cropped up three times, twice under the model name POCO F2 Pro and once as the Redmi K30 Pro 5G Zoom Edition. Alongside the POCO F2 Pro were codenames ‘Imi’, while the K30 Pro 5G Zoom had the codename ‘Imiinpro’. It is believed that the ‘in’ present in ‘Imiinpro’ denotes India, as it has been seen on several Xiaomi and Redmi models launching in India in the past.
Setting the overlapping confusion of phone names aside, it can be assumed that Xiaomi plans on bringing the Redmi K30 Pro 5G Zoom to India under Redmi branding, just as it did with the Redmi K20 series. The question now remaining is which device would launch as the POCO F2 for India.
A mysterious POCO device earlier this month got listed on the EEC, which could mean that a launch date is imminent. It had been revealed earlier by Manmohan that the new POCO F2 will not be priced as aggressively as the POCO F1. It is also confirmed that apart from POCO F2, the company is also working on truly wireless earbuds.
