In May this year, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi launched its Redmi K20 (review) series of flagships in China. The lineup includes a standard and Pro variant. The smartphones made their way to India in July. In October, the Chinese smartphone maker confirmed the Redmi K30 with the launch event scheduled for December 10th. Since then, the smartphone has been subject to a lot of leaks and teasers revealing the key specifications of the device. Now the Redmi K30 has arrived with significant upgrades compared to its predecessor. Xiaomi has announced the K30 in 5G and 4G variants. Let’s take a look at the top five features of the smartphone.
First Redmi phone with 5G support and Snapdragon 765G processor
The Redmi K30 comes with dual-mode 5G connectivity with support for standalone (SA) and non-standalone (NSA) sub-6GHz 5G networks. The smartphone is equipped with a set of 12 antennas that is said to be 2.4 times the number that is found on 4G smartphones. To make 5G signals stronger and more stable, Xiaomi is using a new structural design and complex RF solution.
Under the hood, the Redmi K30 houses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G processor coupled with an Adreno 620 GPU onboard. The Snapdragon 765G comes with an X52 modem that enables 5G connectivity. The chipset is designed to offer better graphics and advanced AI performance with a 5th-gen AIE.
As for the Redmi K30 4G variant, it is equipped with a Snapdragon 730 processor which is the same one that powers the K20.
120Hz display and Android 10
The Redmi K30 sports a full HD+ IPS LCD display measuring 6.66-inches and a taller 20:9 aspect ratio screen. The device comes with a 120Hz refresh rate panel that offers smooth animations and transitions. Users also get the option to choose between 120Hz and 60Hz refresh rate panels. The smartphone is shielded by a 5th gen Corning Gorilla Glass against accidental damages and scratches. Out of the box, the Redmi K30 runs on the latest Android 10 based MIUI 11 on the top.
Premium design with punch-hole display
The Redmi K30 comes with an entirely new design as compared to the Redmi K20. On the front, the smartphone has a punch-hole display (at the top right corner) that accommodates the selfie camera. Redmi revealed that the size of the cutout is 4.38mm. The back panel of the smartphone houses a vertically stacked pill-shaped quad-camera setup in a circular module. The Redmi K30 also features a side-mounted fingerprint scanner instead of an in-display fingerprint scanner. The smartphone is available in four colour options – Pink, Silver, Blue and Purple.
64MP quad-cameras with dual selfie shooters
In the photography department, the Redmi K30 comes with an upgraded camera setup compared to the K20. The setup on the back comprises of a 64MP main camera, an 8MP super-wide-angle lens, 5MP macro sensor and a 2MP depth camera. The 64MP camera is backed by Sony’s new IMX686 sensor with f/1.89 aperture. On the front, the smartphone features a dual-selfie camera in the pill-shaped cutout located at the top-right corner. It consists of a 20MP primary sensor and a 2MP secondary lens.
On the other hand, the Redmi K30 4G comes with a 2MP macro lens instead of 5MP. The rest of the camera sensors are the same as the K30 5G.
4,500mAh battery that fully charges in just one hour
The Redmi K30 draws its power from a 4,500mAh battery unit which is 500mAh larger than the K20 series. The 5G variant supports 30W fast charging which is claimed to top-up the device in just one hour. Xiaomi says that its 30W rapid charging tech is different from other 30W charging technologies. It has an independent charge pump and a charging conversion efficiency of up to 97 percent.
The 4G version of the Redmi K30 comes with 27W fast charging support.

The Redmi K30 is available in 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB, 8GB + 128GB and 8GB + 256GB variants. The smartphone comes with display features like eye protection mode and DC Dimming.
