We all know that Xiaomi is planning to launch Redmi Note 4 somewhere in January. Obviously, the Chinese company is trying to present a better option than its predecessor Redmi Note 3. But the Redmi Note 3 is not a slow phone. Actually, it is the highest selling smartphone for Xiaomi in India.
So let’s see how these phones stand against each other.
Both the Redmi Note 3 and Note 4 sport a 5.5-inch Full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels. This results in same pixel density of 401. So, in terms of display, there’s no difference on paper. However, Redmi Note 4 could be better if Xiaomi uses a better LCD panel for it. Here, both the phones stand on the same ground.
The Redmi Note 3 is powered by a hexa-core Snapdragon 650 processor with 2 Cortex A72 cores and 4 Cortex A53 cores. Whereas, the latest reports suggest that Redmi Note 4 is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 625 processor with 8 Cortex A53 cores.
Talking about the performance, the Snapdragon 650 has an edge over Snapdragon 625 because SD650 has 2 Cortex A72 cores which perform better than A53 for a single threaded task. Hence Redmi Note 3 is an outright better performer than Redmi Note 4.
When it comes to the battery life, it looks like Redmi Note 4 has an edge over the Redmi Note 3. The Snapdragon 625 is one of the most power efficient processors ever to come from the Qualcomm stable. As both the phones pack similar batteries (around 4000mAh), the Redmi Note 4 has an upper hand thanks to its processor.
The Redmi Note 3 houses a 16MP rear camera whereas the Redmi Note 4 features a 13MP camera. Here, the camera of Redmi Note 3 obviously looks better on paper as it packs more megapixels. But on checking the camera in real life, the Redmi Note 4 camera produce more vibrant colours and better images than the Redmi Note 3. Even in low light, the pictures from Redmi Note 4 turns out to be less grainy than of Redmi Note 3.
On front, both the phones have same 5MP camera for selfies. So, overall, the Redmi Note 4 is better than Redmi Note 3 in terms of camera quality.
Well, the Redmi Note 4 clearly wins the duel here. On comparing it with the Redmi Note 3, it has a better camera and great battery backup. However, the Redmi Note 3 is a better performer than Redmi Note 4.
So, personally, I would vouch for the Redmi Note 4.
