Redmi Note 7 With 48MP Camera and Snapdragon 660 Launched in China

Xiaomi recently confirmed that Redmi would become an independent brand. The first smartphone launched after this announcement is the Redmi Note 7. There are several firsts that come with the Redmi Note 7. It is the first Redmi phone to feature a waterproof and dustproof glass body, gradient colour options, a notched display, USB Type-C port and fast charging. Moreover, it has arrived with an irresistible starting price of 999 Yuan (~Rs 10,400).

Design and Display

The Redmi Note 7 has 2.5D Corning Glass 5 on its front and rear sides. The four corners of the phone are reinforced to protect its glass build. Without mentioning the IP rating, Redmi revealed that the Note 7 is a dustproof and waterproof handset. Its dimensions are 159.21 x 75.21 x 8.1mm and it weighs 186 grams.

The Note 7 is equipped with a 6.3-inch display with full HD+ resolution of 2,340 x 1,080 pixels and a 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The other features of the display include 450-nits brightness, 1500:1 contrast ratio, night mode and eye protection mode.

Chipset, Storage and Battery

Redmi has powered the Note 7 with the Snapdragon 660 chipset. It comes with up to 6GB of RAM and up to 64GB of inbuilt storage. To keep the lights on, the Note 7 features a 4,000mAh battery. The handset ships with a standard 10W charger. However, users can purchase an 18W charger in order to take advantage of Quick Charge 4.0 on the Note 7. The MIUI 10 based Android 9 Pie is preinstalled on the smartphone.

Cameras and Connectivity

The vertical dual camera setup placed on the rear of the Redmi Note 7 features a 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture. It is assisted by 5-megapixel depth sensor. The dual cameras carry support for features like handheld super night scene mode, portrait mode, auto HDR, PDAF, electronic image stabilidation, face detection and AI scene recognition. The 13-megapixel selfie camera residing on the front supports AI smart beauty, AI portrait mode, background blur and HDR.

The Redmi Note 7 comes with usual connectivity features such as dual-SIM support, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster. For security, Note 7 users can make use of the rear-facing fingerprint reader and AI face unlock.

Price and Availability

The base mode of the Redmi Note 7 with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of storage is priced at 999 Yuan (~Rs 10,400). The mid-level model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage and it costs 1,199 Yuan (~Rs 12,455). The highest configuration model features 6GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. It is priced at 1,399 Yuan (~Rs 14,533).

Redmi Note 7 price

The Redmi Note 7 can be bought in colours like Black, Fantasy Blu and Sunrise Red. Redmi is offering an 18 month warranty for the Note 7 in China. Its pre-orders have started in China and its sales will kick off from January 15th in the home market.

Redmi Note 7 Pro

Redmi will be releasing the Redmi Note 7 Pro after the Spring Festival of China, which means it could be available at the end of the first week. The Redmi Note 7 Pro will come equipped with a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 camera sensor. Redmi is yet to divulge details on the international availability of the Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro.
