Xiaomi launched its latest Redmi Note series device, the Redmi Note 9 in India earlier today. The smartphone is the base model in the Redmi Note 9 series. Notably, the smartphone maker has previously launched the Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max in the country in March this year.

The Redmi Note 9 comes with a smaller display, MediaTek processor, and a different camera setup. However, it does share several similarities with its more powerful siblings, including a similar design. Redmi Note 9The Redmi Note 9 has been priced at Rs 11,999, Rs 13,499 and Rs 14,999 for the 4GB + 64GB, 4GB + 128GB and 6GB + 128GB variants, respectively. The smartphone is being offered in Pebble Grey, Arctic White, and Aqua Green colours, and will go on sale via Amazon, Mi.com and Mi Home stores starting July 24th.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max are also available from the same stores. The former has been priced at Rs 13,999 and Rs 16,999 for the 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 128GB variants, respectively. The Pro Max, on the other hand, is being offered in three variants – 6GB + 64GB, 6GB + 128GB and 8GB + 128GB, priced at Rs 14,999, Rs 16,999 and Rs 18,999, respectively

As the most affordable smartphone in the series, the Redmi Note  9 comes with the smallest display of the lot. The smartphone ships with a 6.53-inch FHD+  display with a punch-hole cutout and 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display panel is protected by a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass 5, with an anti-oil and anti-fingerprint protective coating.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max both ship with 6.67-inch punch-hole displays with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Apart from the size, everything else remains the same including the FHD+ resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection and the anti-oil and as anti-fingerprint coating.

In terms of performance, both Redmi Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max are both identical as they come equipped with the Snapdragon 720G chipset. However, while the former has up to 6GB RAM, the latter comes with up to 8GB RAM. The newly launched Redmi Note 9 is the odd one out here with its MediaTek Helio G85 chipset, and is the first smartphone in India to come with this processor. The Redmi Note 9 also comes with up to 6GB RAM.

On the software front, all three phones boot MIUI 11 based on Android 10 out of the box.

Coming to the optics, the Redmi Note 9 series devices are all equipped with a square camera module on the back. The Redmi Note 9 features a 48-megapixel Samsung GM1 primary camera, backed by an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens, 2-megapixel macro lens and 2-megapixel depth sensor.

The Redmi Note 9 Pro features the next generation 48-megapixel Samsung GM2 sensor with an 8-megapixel ultra-wide camera, 5-megapixel macro lens and 2-megapixel depth sensor. The Redmi Note 9 Pro Max also has the same setup, but gets a 64-megapixel primary camera instead.

As for the selfie shooters, the Redmi Note 9, Redmi Note 9 Pro and Redmi Note 9 Pro Max offer 13-megapixel, 16-megapixel and 32-megapixel cameras in the punch-hole cutout on the front.

All three Redmi Note 9 series smartphones are powered by a 5,020mAh battery. Surprisingly, the Redmi Note 9 offers faster 22.5W fast charging compared to Redmi Note 9 Pro’s 18W fast charging. The Redmi Note 9 also supports 9W reverse charging The top-of-the-line Redmi Note 9 Pro Max offers 33W fast charging. All three phones are equipped with USB Type-C ports.

At its starting price of Rs 11,999, the Redmi Note 9 several notable features to the table, including the Helio G85 SoC, 48-megapixel quad cameras, beefy battery with fast charging and more. However, if you are looking for a faster Snapdragon processor and better cameras, you should look at the Redmi Note 9 Pro or Redmi Note 9 Pro Max.
