Redmi TV Gets Certified In China, Hints at Imminent Launch

Xiaomi’s Redmi sub-brand is prepping a smart TV in China. Xiaomi’s own Mi TVs are already popular in India and China. Redmi General Manager Lu Weibing recently asked fans on Weibo whether they would be interested in a Redmi TV. Now we know that Redmi TV is already in the making and the same has also been spotted on China’s 3C certification database.

The upcoming Redmi TV bearing a model number L70M5-RA has surfaced on China’s 3C authority. This inadvertently hints at an upcoming launch. According to the listing, the TV is likely to come with a 70-inch 4K UHD resolution panel. Furthermore, it is also rumoured to be the most affordable 70-inch 4K TV once it is launched in the market.

The rumours also talk about other Redmi TV’s in works. Another variant with a model number L40M5-FA has also been spotted. This one could be a 40-inch variant. Typically, devices arrive in the market in a few weeks after getting 3C certified.

Xiaomi has been positioning Redmi as an independent brand, and we’ve recently seen the Redmi K20 and the K20 Pro flagship from its stable.

Redmi has not just restricted itself to smartphones. The brand also sells headphones, notebooks, bags and a washing machine. Smartphone manufacturers have shown a keen interest in entering the Smart TV segment. Brands like OnePlus are working on a smart TV, while Honor will launch its smart TV next week.
