At an event held in China today, Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi launched the Note 8 series of smartphone. Alongside, Redmi unveiled its first smart TV, and refreshed its RedmiBook 14 laptop that was launched in May this year. Let’s take a look at the new devices below:
The new Redmi TV sports a large 70-inch display bearing 4K resolution and HDR support. The company says that it is 60 percent larger than a 55-inch screen smart TV. The display on the Redmi TV is surrounded by thin bezels and there is ‘Redmi’ branding on the chin. It features a 6th generation Picture Quality Engine. On the audio front, the Redmi TV comes with Dolby Atmos audio as well as DTS HD sound.
The Redmi TV is equipped with an Amlogic 64 quad-core processor ticking at 1.5GHz. It is paired with a Mali-450 MP3 GPU. The TV packs 2GB RAM and offers 16GB internal storage. Similar to Xiaomi’s Mi LED smart TVs, the Redmi TV runs on Patchwall OS based on Android. The TV comes with support for voice assistants and a Bluetooth-powered voice control remote. Users can also control other smart home products through Redmi TV.
As for connectivity, the TV comes with dual-band Wi-Fi, 3 HDMI ports and 2 USB ports.
Xiaomi has refreshed the RedmiBook 14 with the Intel’s latest 10th-generation processors. To recall, the laptop was offered in three configurations – Core i5 + 256GB SSD, i5 + 512GB SSD, and i7 + 512GB SSD. All three models were powered by 8th generation chipsets paired with up to 8GB RAM and an Nvidia MX250 GPU onboard. The latest RedmiBook 14 model can also be availed in a Pink colour option alongside the standard Grey colour. The rest of the specifications of the RedmiBook 14 remain the same.
Pricing & Availability:
In China, the price of Redmi TV is set at 3,799 Yuan (~Rs 38,000). The TV is up for pre-booking in the country with sales commencing from September 3rd. There is no word on international availability yet, but considering Mi TVs are sold in India, the Redmi TV could also arrive in the coming months.
The RedmiBook 14 starts at 3,999 Yuan (~Rs 40,600) for the base variant and 4,499 Yuan (~Rs 45,000) for the Core i5 + 8GB + 512GB configuration. The top-end model retails at 4,999 Yuan (~Rs 50,000).
