Redmi teaser hints at launch of Redmibook laptop on February 11th

Last week, Xiaomi had teased the launch of a new smartphone in India on February 11th. It is expected to be the Redmi 9 or Redmi 8A Dual. Alongside, the company’s sub-brand had also teased the launch of one more product in a new category, possibly a power bank. However, a new teaser shared by Redmi India on Twitter hints at the brand’s first laptop in the country. The teaser video clearly reveals the edges of a laptop. It states that the ‘new category launch’ will be held at 12pm tomorrow. Notably, Xiaomi had also filed a RedmiBook trademark in India last month.

On January 29th, Xiaomi MD Manu Jain had met Intel India MD to discuss smartphones, laptops and technology. This hinted at the possibility of the arrival of RedmiBook in the country. Xiaomi’s laptops are currently limited to its home market. The company offers two classes of laptops under the Mi NoteBook series and RedmiBook. The former is a premium range of laptops while the latter is an affordable lineup. The RedmiBook 13 was the latest laptop model launched back in December 2019. We expect Xiaomi to launch the same in India tomorrow.

With its first laptop in the country, Xiaomi will compete against the likes of Lenovo, Dell, HP and more in the laptop segment.

RedmiBook 13 specifications and pricing

The RedmiBook 13 has a 13.3-inch FHD+ display offering an 89 percent screen-to-body ratio. It is equipped with Harman speakers with DTS support. The laptop is powered by a 10th gen Core i5 or i7 processors paired with an NVIDIA MX250 GPU onboard. The device packs 8GB RAM and offers 512GB SSD storage. It also comes with a cooling system for heat dissipation and silent operation.

The RedmiBook 13 is backed by a 40Wh battery unit that is claimed to offer 11 hours of video playback and 8.5 hours of web browsing. The laptop supports fast charging that is capable of topping up the device to 50 percent in 35 minutes.

In China, the RedmiBook 13 costs RMB 4,199 (~Rs 42,300) for the base variant and goes up to RMB 5,199 (~Rs 51,000) for the higher model. We expect the laptop to be priced aggressively in India.
