Reliance AGM 2019: Jio Fiber plans, commercial launch date, Jio set-top box, free 4K TV and more

Addressing the stakeholders at the 42nd Annual General Meeting 2019 of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani made several key announcements related to Jio Fiber’s broadband service. While Jio Fiber has been in the testing phase for a while now, Ambani has finally announced that service will commercially launch on September 5th, the third anniversary of the company.

The company announced that the Reliance Jio Fiber plans will start from Rs 700 for the 100Mbps plan, and the top-tier plan with a speed of 1Gbps will set you back by Rs 10,000. However, the complete details of all Jio Fiber plans will be revealed on the date of commercial launch next month. Subscribers of Jio Fiber will get a complimentary landline connection offering free voice calls to any telecom operator across India for life. The service will also provide unlimited international calling at low tariffs. As of now, the company has only announced unlimited calling to the US and Canada at just Rs 500 per month.

Jio has also announced a Jio Postpaid Plus service for GigaFiber users, which is basically a platinum-grade plan. Those who opt for the Postpaid Plus service will get  India’s first priority SIM-setup service at home, which includes a home visit by Jio personnel to move your connection to Jio. Apart from this, the plan offers superior data and voice connectivity across all devices, affordable family plans, economical international roaming, phone upgrades at nominal rates and more. The details about this plan will be made available on Jio.com and the MyJio app on September 5th.

The company also announced a new offer for Jio Fiber subscribers. Those opting for the Forever annual plan will be eligible for the Jio Fiber Welcome Offer. As part of this offer, the subscriber will get either a Full HD / 4K TV or a Home PC and a 4K set-top box for free. The premium Jio Fiber users will also get access to Jio’s “First Day First Show”, which will allow them to watch a movie at home the same day of the theater release. This service will be rolled out in mid-2020. As for the set-top box, it offers online multi-player gaming in 4K and comes with support for most gaming controller. Reliance has partnered with the likes of Microsoft, Tencent Games, Gameloft, RIOT Games, Milestone and more to bring gaming titles to the set-top box.

Ambani revealed that Jio Fiber has received 15 million registrations for its Fiber Home broadband service. The company has plans to reach 20 million residences and 15 million business establishments across 1,600 towns. As of now, Jio Fiber has a user base of 5 lakh users who have enrolled for the pilot drive of the service.
