Reliance AGM 2021: how to watch the live stream
Jio will live stream the 44th AGM 2021 on its official YouTube channel. This year, the company is also streaming the Annual General Meeting on its JioMeet platform for shareholders as well as common folks. The event is scheduled to kick off at 2pm IST today. You can watch the event through the video embedded below.
Reliance AGM 2021: what to expect
As usual Jio is expected to announce its financials for shareholders in the Annual General Meeting. However, what will be of interest to most users are the company’s plans for new devices and 5G networks.
Jio-Google 5G smartphone
At the Reliance AGM 2020, Reliance announced a partnership with Google to launch an affordable 5G smartphone in India. We can expect Reliance to finally announce the handset at today’s event. The smartphone which is expected to run on a custom Android version is expected to be the cheapest 5G offering in the country with the price reported to be as low as Rs 2,500.
The telecom operator is currently working on bringing 5G connectivity to the country, and with the affordable 5G smartphone, the brand intends to make the next-generation connectivity accessible to all. To put things into perspective, the Realme 8 5G and POCO M3 Pro are currently the cheapest 5G smartphones in India starting at Rs 13,999.
Jio 5G network
Mukesh Ambani also revealed at Reliance’s 43rd AGM last year that Jio will start 5G development from scratch in the country. He then went on to confirm that the telecom operator will roll out commercial 5G services in India in the second half of 2021 at Indian Mobile Congress. Therefore, we might see some announcements regarding the next-gen network during today’s event.
Notably, the telecom operator has already begun 5G trials in Mumbai recently and has also reportedly achieved 1Gbps speeds during the trials using local technology. While the launch of 5G networks is still some time away in India, we expect the telco to announce a timeline for the launch and public 5G trials in more locations around the country.
JioBook budget laptop
Jio is expected to reveal details of its budget laptop at the 44th Annual General Meeting today. The laptop is rumoured to be called the JioBook and is expected to boot the Android-based JioOS with support for 4G LTE. According to an XDA Developers report, the JioBook laptop will feature an HD display, Snapdragon 665 processor with an integrated 4G modem, up to 4GB RAM, 64GB storage, and Android 10-based JioOS. Connectivity-wise, the laptop will offer dual-band Wi-Fi, mini HDMI, and Bluetooth. The telco might also announce dedicated 4G plans for the laptop. If launched at an affordable price, the JioBook laptop has the potential to make home education more accessible for students in India, since schools continue to remain shut across the country due to COVID,
