The former is said to develop hardware while the other vendors will do the assembling. Reliance is also planning to source components from the likes of Tata Electronics. The smartphone will be priced under $50 (~Rs 3,600) and will go on pre-booking in the coming months.
A top executive quoted, “Beginning of trials suggests that the phone may be up for launch in the fourth quarter (through December), if not earlier.”
According to the report, Reliance is testing a 4G as well as 5G version of its upcoming smartphone with different specifications like screen size, memory etc. The device will likely be sold exclusively on JioMart and Reliance Digital stores first. It is expected to be offered with a bundled Jio SIM and lucrative recharge offers.
Reports of Reliance’s affordable Jio smartphone have been doing the rounds ever since the company announced its tie-up with Google last year.
