At Reliance’s 43rd AGM held in June this year, CEO Mukesh Ambani had announced that Jio’s 5G development would be starting from scratch. Now at the ongoing Indian Mobile Congress, Ambani addressed in his keynote that Reliance will roll-out Jio 5G services in India in the second half of 2021.

In a statement, Ambani said, ‘India is today among the best digitally connected nations in the world. In order to maintain this lead, policy steps are needed to accelerate the early rollout of 5G, and to make it affordable and available everywhere.’
The Reliance MD and Chairman noted that Jio’s 5G network would serve as a step closer to the country’s ‘AtmaNirbhar Bharat’ initiative. It will also enable India to lead the Fourth Industrial Revolution and not only participate.
In his keynote, Ambani urged the government to work on the policy to accelerate the rollout of the fifth-generation wireless service. This would ensure that underprivileged people on 2G networks can shift to affordable smartphones to take advantage of 5G and actively participate in the digital economy.
Jio is already working with Qualcomm and Samsung to develop 5G solutions in India. Additionally, the company is also working with Google to launch an entry-level 4G Android smartphone. A subsidiary of Reliance Industries, Jio Platforms has raised investments in the past few months from companies such as Google, Facebook among others. This is aimed at expanding the digital presence in the country.
5G network will offer faster data speeds, low latency and enhanced digital experiences across devices like smartphones, laptops, AR, VR products and IoT solutions.
