Reliance Jio recently launched its Jio Postpaid Plus plans starting from Rs 399. These are premium postpaid plans offering unlimited voice and video calls, complimentary OTT apps subscriptions, data rollover up to 500GB and cheap international calls. According to a regulatory filing with TRAI by the telco, Postpaid Plus plan customers are required to pay a security deposit amount.
According to the terms and conditions on the TRAI website, the Jio Postpaid Plus plans will require users to pay up to Rs 1,800 security deposit depending on the plan they select. Additionally, the website also reveals that the complimentary OTT apps subscription with these plans are not really free and there’s a subscription charge involved.
Jio charges security deposits for its Postpaid Plus plans
While it’s a norm for telcos to charge a security amount for new postpaid connections, Jio had not mentioned it on its official website for the Postpaid Plus Plans. Now the regulatory filing by the telco has shed light on the security deposit amounts for the five Postpaid Plus Plans.
The Rs 399 Jio Postpaid Plus plan is listed with a security deposit amount of Rs 500, whereas those opting for the Rs 599 Postpaid Plus plan will have to shell out Rs 750. The Rs 799 and Rs 999 Jio Postpaid Plus plan subscribers will have to pay Rs 1,000 and Rs 1,200, respectively. Lastly, the most premium Jio Postpaid Plus plan of Rs 1,499 will require subscribers to pay Rs 1,800 as the security deposit amount.
The filing on the TRAI website has also revealed the FUP limit for the call and data usage offered by the Rs 1,499 plan in US and UAE regions. The official website mentions unlimited data and voice for these regions. However, the TRAI listing reveals that subscribers will get 5GB of high-speed data and 500 minutes of voice calls (incoming, outgoing and calls to India) in the US. For UAE, the telco will offer 1GB of high-speed data and 300 minutes of voice calls.
OTT apps subscriptions with Jio Postpaid Plus plans are not free
As you can see in the image above, the complimentary Netflix Mobile, Amazon Prime, Disney+ Hotstar VIP and Jio Apps are not really free for the end users. The telco is charging Rs 135 as the subscription charge across all five Jio Postpaid Plus plans. Jio is not offering any provision to opt-out of OTT content subscription charges while selecting a Jio Postpaid Plus plan.
