Earlier this month, Reliance Jio complained to TRAI about Vodafone Idea’s expensive base prepaid plan that bundles SMS option. For those unaware, valid SMS service is required to apply for mobile number portability. However, that is not the case anymore as TRAI published a new order last week.

Reliance Jio announces SMS benefits for its affordable prepaid plan

Reliance Jio Rs 119 plan

The Rs 119 prepaid plan from Reliance Jio offers 300 SMS for 14 days

Reliance Jio’s Rs 119 prepaid plan offers 1.5GB data daily and unlimited voice calling for 14 days. The total data cap during the validity period is 21GB. The plan also now comes with 300 SMS until the expiry date. Subscribers also get access to JioTV, JioCinema, JioSecurity, and JioCloud. The Rs 119 prepaid recharge pack from Reliance Jio is now also the cheapest plan with SMS benefit in the telecom sector.

Compared to Reliance Jio’s Rs 119 prepaid plan, Airtel and Vi’s base plans that offer SMS benefits are priced at Rs 128 and Rs 179 respectively. However, Airtel doesn’t offer unlimited benefits and users will be charged for voice calling and SMS from the main balance. Meanwhile, Vi offers 2GB data, unlimited calls, and 300 SMS for a longer 28 days duration under its Rs 179 recharge pack.

Recently, all three telecom operators hiked the prices of their prepaid plans. As per TRAI’s latest directive, subscribers can now port out to any network by sending an SMS to 1900 even if their recharge plan doesn’t offer any SMS benefit.
